FBF is the beginning of my dream. To have my horses, chickens, dog, and any other rescues at home w
Operating as usual
Instead of this, yesterday was all freezing rain leaving ugly mud:(
When one bed isn’t enough after running around in the cold rain today…
It’s National Day of the Horse! I have had so many special horses in my life, all have helped make me a better horsewoman and human- and several have given me arthritis, busted discs, and a few concussions. None has tested me more than Dilly for sure! From behavior issues, to health issues, to surviving what should’ve been a fatal fungus… that horse is determined to teach me to be a great rider ( or die trying!) and has taught me more about myself and handling my own grief and emotions than any therapist ever could. Now I have actual pics of my first two horses, Aldie and Bailey to add to the memories!
Today 🤦♀️ first Dilly got sprayed by a skunk which I discovered while bringing them in at 6 am in the pouring rain. Then, Eric who has to be one of the most affectionate animals at the farm, (besides the dogs and Asher) decided to make a jail break from his nice dry stall protecting him from the rain. Thank goodness Sam was home to help me eventually get him chased back out in his paddock with his friends.
When you and your horse are the same kind of weird
Brrrr it’s getting cold here on the farm! Everyone is so fuzzy and extra snuggly. Winter may be gray and all work with little play, but at least everyone is extra adorable with their winter coats!
The barn manager and his terrible assistant were caught canoodling this afternoon….
I’m out of state for a few days- but it’s always fun to get pics like these from friends who stop by to spoil the citizens of FBF❤️❤️.
Here is an article on Dilly’s summer drama 🙂

Picadilly Pete, a thoroughbred gelding, known affectionately at home as Dilly, was bred in Pennsylvania and foaled on March 28, 2010. Sired by Tekken (IRE) out of Truco De Amor, he won over $240,000 during his racing career.
Happy place! My favorite time of year in Virginia ❤️❤️😍
Eric says happy Friday!!
Just a little animal photo dump from the last week! Dilly is happy to be back in work, Doah got to visit her namesake Shenandoah National Park, and Quinn offered up some snuggles at a late night barn check:)
Dilly bean is back in work! Snuck in a late afternoon hack with both boys! Thanks Katie and Jayne for letting me come ride! Doah is also learning to make new friends!
Traffic jam pulling into my trainer’s farm. Follow up picture in comments.
The news we have all been waiting for!!! Dilly got the all clear to go back to work! Fungus is all gone! He has a bit of a flacid area where his whinny comes from, unsure if his voice will come back or not- but I’ll take a silent Dilly over no Dilly any day!! Everyone came in to see him, including their photographer. They did a CT as well since he will be used as a case study to teach other vets.
Eager to get to his final ( we hope!) recheck this morning ❤️❤️
Thanks Katie and Sam for letting me crash your anniversary afternoon at Maggie malicks! Doah’s first try at dock diving- safe to say she loves it!
By request, another Doah loving Eric video…. We promote inter species friendships here at the farm.
Not every day on the farm is easy. In fact almost no days are. Some are harder than others. This morning is one of those days. Our sweet, playful, lovable Toby has crossed over the rainbow bridge. He was a Boer goat so sweet that his kid couldn’t bear to take him to market, so he came to live with us. He was a problem child, I had to learn how to perform a sensitive procedure on his poor urethra, treated many stomach issues. But his playful nature helped bring the other feral goats around to being friendly. This time I caught his illness too late and despite my efforts, Toby passed away overnight. I’m sure Bobby is enjoying having his best buddy with him wherever they are💔💔
It was brought to my attention that I haven’t posted a Dilly update in a bit. He is off all meds now! Recheck is set for Sept 12 to see if we can go back to work 🤞🤞🤞🤞 we had farrier day, lots of doggo visitors, and Dilly had some Reiki energy work done ( which was super cool!). Busy weekend/week!
Making sauce and salsa normally fills my summers, but a late crop combined with my general malaise these days meant a delayed cook. I’ll admit this isn’t one of my fav farm activities- it’s messy and time consuming. The finished product however, is really nice to have in the middle of winter. A reminder of fresh things to come the following spring. Nothing goes to waste here, the skins and seeds go to the chickens 🙂. This was about 1/2 of the tomatoes I used to make 3 quarts today….
Sasha wanted to say hello to all of her fans today.
Everyone keeping cool in their own ways during this heat wave. Horses are in stalls with giant fans, Doah goes back and forth from AC to the pool, Asher just always looks like he just woke up, and chickens, well even they are standing in the water
The three weirdo babies ( I laugh and say that this hidden clutch was Bobby’s last joke on me) have not wanted to sleep in the coop, so every night for the last week, I’ve been moving them in there myself. They finally put themselves away last night. I’ve decided to name them after the hocus pocus sisters. Meet Winifred Sarah and Mary Sanderson
Asher likes to help me prep meds in the tack room. He takes his job very seriously. This morning his sister even joined in, but she is camera shy…
I’m trying hard to conquer some of my anxiety about my barn and house ( and self) being such a disaster lately by giving myself one project every morning. Since I’m up super early to do medications, I’m left with several hours before my actual bill-paying work starts. Today I was cleaning up my feed room. I kept hearing rustling and saw the chopped forage bag moving. I tried to quietly peek but got bit. By my smallest hen😆. She decided being suffocated in plastic makes her want to lay🤷🏻♀️. She was born here but hasn’t earned a name yet… any ideas?
So last night, as the sun set, I decided it was time to take my last three babies into the big coop. The roosters and two other hens sold
To good homes, so decided to keep these 3… don’t worry I’m sure there will be more one day…. So as I’m carrying three freaky looking chicks out, In my polka dot pjs, I hear neighbors talking. 🤦♀️. Nobody is ever outside that late. They had guests. Nothing to see here, just a crazy lady carrying her crazy chickens, wearing fancy Jammies. Then I see the car pull out- it’s the new neighbors I haven’t met yet🫣🫣. I’m sure the convo was along the linea of “we don’t talk to that one much…”. Sigh. This is what life has become.
Actually was able to spend 5 min in the garden this morning !
Bam. Tzatziki with some amazing tomatoes from our awesome neighbor Alison Badger since mine aren’t ready yet. Too bad I forgot olives when I was at the store…
Daw. Doah finally found a friend in the barn❤️. Eric allows eye licking😂. In exchange, Doah does not bite his nose
Cucumbers anyone?
Prob one of the funniest gifts I’ve received! Thank you Scott and Jess!!! ( please ignore my weeds )
It’s been a rough week (again) on the farm with Dilly being in the hospital for an emergency- but he is now on the mend! The garden is giving, plus my surprise sunflowers that came up near where Bobby planted some for me last year, had my fav little flying ladies hanging out on them today ❤️
Garden is doing its thing, despite all the weeds this year
