Hands down, the best part of our trip to Wisconsin was meeting Amanda from Woollyhorn Farm and Amanda from Long R***e Farm. These women not only provided most of our starter flock two years ago, but also have been great mentors. We appreciate them both so much!

Hruta and her quadruplets needed a special jug for a special family. My regular 4x5’ jugs were much too cramped.

Ground rods, I-bolts and scrap hog panel did the trick. Was so lovely seeing the babies hop and run with their newfound freedom.

Well this was awful to come home to.

This ewelamb had a dilated umbilical at birth which normally would work itself out as the cord dries.

I spoke to 2 different veterinarians this morning on what to do for her. One was pro tincture of time, the other said navel clamp or dental floss to seal it up.

I will now keep dental floss in my lambing kit. Because after I left the farm to pick up my kids from school I found her like this. Intestines spilling out of her umbilical.

Darn. Lesson here is don’t chance it. Just tie it.

But this baby needed her guts to go back in, and she was getting weak with them falling out. So after consulting a veterinarian again we proceeded to put the intestines back in carefully.

Making a very small incision to the navel to increase its size, put the intestines where they belong and sutured her navel closed.

Animax antibiotic ointment applied to navel and banamine given for pain. Since she’s just 9lbs her dose was .1ml!

We will see how she does. Before the little surgery she was getting weak and became uninterested in nursing. Just 30 minutes after we sorted her out and had pain relief she was up and nursing again. ❤️

If she heals up nice, she’s destined to make the world’s best lamb wieners in October. I wouldn’t want to wait to find out if her hernia was hereditary.

We are at 34 lambs with just two more ewes to go. TCE Harpa and ALDER Sofia.

I know Sofia is due ~5/15

No known date for Harpa, but should go before Sophia IMO.

I am so really for everyone to be born and getting these sheep out grazing.

The quads are doing GREAT! ❤️
