Some know that I have been away from the farm for the past couple weeks. My brother and his wife had a new baby and they invited me down to help out. I jumped at the chance for an adventure. I have not been in the Los Angeles area for any significant amount of time in 21 years!
Here is a photo dump of my first week. It was an adjustment from wintry Oregon. I have had to remind myself several times that this is January. My focus has been on spending time with my nephews, reconnecting with old friends / family, buying drapery fabric for the farm, finding fabric remnants for Evans Farm packaging IFYKYK, and of course learning about citrus and exploring various makers of jam! Oh and farmer’s markets :) those pictures are next.
Here are pics of my view. A white guava whose flavor I adore and have picked enough to make a couple of batches of jam for PSU. There won’t be much so if you see it, grab it.
I was honored to go to a birthday party of a Sikh family on MLK day. I was introduced to the Indian street food Pani Puri. Fried orbs stuffed with spiced sautéed onions and potatoes and if that wasn’t tasty enough, you pour a juice of cilantro, lime, spices over top and put the whole thing in your mouth. Heaven!
I found a gem for repurposing fabric in Pasadena called Remainders. They sell fabric by the pound and were thrilled that I would be using it for market packaging purposes. (No microplastics!)
The “nut bar” outside of the Italian Deli Co. is a nice touch. Nice big fat friendly squirrels. And “my” crazy palm tree. When I left the top of the palm was at the top window now it’s above the house!
