Get Repost App • D&P Selezioni Over thousands of years, volcanic activity formed a remarkably diverse landscape, from the ancient volcanic deposits of Irpinia to the active slopes of Mount Vesuvius and the vast caldera of Campi Flegrei.

But “volcanic soil” isn’t one thing.

In Irpinia, clay, limestone, volcanic tuff and sulphur-rich soils can all exist within a short distance of one another, creating remarkably different growing conditions. On Vesuvius, layers of lava, ash and lapilli form porous, well-drained soils that encourage vines to develop deep root systems. In Campi Flegrei, loose pyroclastic sands have even allowed ungrafted vines to survive for generations.

These landscapes influence the flavour of a wine, but they especially influence how vines grow, how they access water, and how each vineyard responds to its environment.

The deeper we understand the land, the better we understand the wines that come from it.
