Welcome stranger! How may I help you?
Ah you are looking for a treasure from the fields.
Red, round? Sweet…nutrient dense? Ah, is it a root you are asking for?
Very good, I believe I have what you desire. These here are beets, a sort of ruby vegetable that are delicious and prized not just for their roots but also their leaves.
Would you like to purchase a bunch?
Yes, I would barter for your enchanted armor.

Asclepias tuberosa, butterfly milkweed, one of the most stunning native flowers. Like other milkweeds, it is an important source of food for many butterfly species.
We will have seedlings of this available at market this week along with many other native plants.

With the record breaking heat this week, the market is bound to be brimming with bounty. We also have so many gorgeous cut flowers, beets, fennel, garlic scapes, and more!
Come out to Saturday morning!

Sunday May 17 10am-4pm
This is your last chance to visit the nursery!… this May.

More perennials are starting to bloom in the nursery and gardens including this widow’s cross sedum. This section of garden was planted last year and has well established roots, but hasn’t been watered this spring. Dry soil preferring native plants really show how little water is necessary for beautiful and insect friendly landscaping.

This is a video of you shopping at the farmers’ market.
A quick stop at every stall!

Also, this could be you visiting our nursery this Sunday. Um, buzzing around the penstemon like a bee.

See you at tomorrow morning.

And if you want to shop the full selection of native perennials, come to our open nursery day this Sunday 10am-4pm

Happy May Day. May workers be uplifted and the wealth of our societies shared equitably and billionaires develop compassionate minds and cease to exist through peaceful wealth redistribution. Haha. 🙏
Well anyway I would love to sell some of these spring flowers this weekend so I can pay my crew and other bills.
Looks like it’ll be rainy this Saturday which is honestly great, we need rain.
Also there is a marathon happening in Durham that is going to close a lot of roads around market until around 9. So maybe come to market after 10.
We will have plants and a pile of fennel too!

An Itea whose time has come!

It is bloom time for Virginia sweetspire (Itea virginica). This native shrub can grow 4-6 tall, has showy reddish-purple fall foliage, and is deer resistant! It prefers part-shade and a well-drained to moist soil.
The lightly fragrant flowers are open for several weeks usually in May and attract a wide variety of pollinators.

We have plants of the ‘Henry’s Garnet’ cultivar available, Saturdays in May and at our open nursery Sundays May 3 and May 17.

Now you can’t claim you had no Itea about this plant. 🌱 🤓
