Fernrock Farm, located in Orange County outside of Hillsborough, cultivates 2 acres of specialty cut flowers. Bill Brown and Carrie McCann began commercial farming in 2008 and sell flowers through Piedmont Wholesale Flowers as well as directly to florists. The farm is an agrotourism destination where customers can visit the farm to cut flowers or attend a class. Classes are offered in topics such

as:
-How to start a cutting garden
-How to grow dahlias
-Flower arranging
-"Secrets" of cut flowers
-Fall planting for spring blooms

Flowers grown include tulips, larkspur, zinnias, gladioli, black eyed Susans, sunflowers, daisies, and phlox. Dahlias are a focal crop with over 1000 cultivated covering the full color spectrum: red, orange, yellow, pink, peach, purple, and white.
