We've had a tough month on the farm.
In late feburary we were instructed by the Hillsdale Township Planning Commission our plan was rejected, outright.
This leaves us in a grey area, which we do not like.
We are allowed to "sell our produce through our farm stand" but we are not allowed "to commercial farm".
No where in the code does it specifically give parameters for a "commercial farm" nor how and what we can sell through our "farm stand" as so long at it is grown on the property.
We will have to adjust.
We will not be renewing our MDARD license for fear that could somehow be proof we are a "commercial farm".
We will no longer be offering anything "on demand", beyond seasonal veggies.
All orders must be "pre orders", or "club members" we haven't settled on what way we will go this summer.
We will no longer attend any farmers markets, all produce sold must be sold through our "farm stand", by appointment and "pre order" with the exception of veggie produce which we will send out posts, ads, and "invites" when it is ready for purchase through our "farm stand".
We are still offering fully customized "pre orders" on meat chickens.

And soon we will have eggs available through the "farm stand".
This is a dicey road, and things may change. The planning commission has set up codes that are very grey, and in that grey they hold total control and can issue fines at the cost of $150/ infraction on their own discretion.
