There are videos on Tiktok talking about these screws in the pump cradles. Let me set the record straight, we have those at most of the pumps. Kroger Facility has put these in because it keeps the plastic part that gets pushed back in when you hang the pump nozzle up from coming out too far. When this happens the pump does NOT let people pump gas. We have had a lot of trouble with this problem. We know the screws are there and YES they are supposed to be there. This is not for people to steal gas from the person who pumped before them. Actually there is a time limit on the pumps and it shuts off automatically if gas is not actively being pumped. If you have ever tried to fill up more than 1 car you have seen this happen. They shut off so no one can steal gas on your card after you have left. It is rare but sometimes when the nozzle is hung up, it isnβt hung up all the way so it would be possible for someone to continue pumping gas on the first persons card. They are a safety feature at our pumps so no you dont have issues where the pump just stops while you are pumping and your discount gets messed up. We can manually give you the difference for your discount but it is a hassle for us as much as you guys. I cant speak for other gas stations but at Kroger we know they are there and check the pumps regularly. If we find an issue we mark the pump out of order and it is not used until Kroger Facility comes out to inspect that pump. I hope this clears up some confusion and gives people peace of mind that they can pump gas safely at our fuel stations. Thank you for your business.
