Yes, the 12 oz bottles uses (from ) are cute & handy to keep. But wait! They are REFILLABLE & REUSABLE! A new, blue label on the cap reminds you to take your empty bottles back to . AND, as an incentive to return them, you get a 50 cent store credit per returned bottle! These bottles can be reused again & again as part of building a circular economy, reducing costs for our local beverage producers, & keeping reusables out of the landfill. Mahalo for helping by returning the bottles!

We need community input on how to design a reusable foodware & beverageware system for Hilo. Hope you can join us (org & the County of Hawai'i, Dept. Of Environmental Management) at one of the events. The circuit of interactive activities takes 20-30 min. A hui hou!

Took a break from social media but the work continues! 2023 is giving plenty chances to reflect on historical events while processing new & returned bottles for filling & refilling.

When new bottle #2000 was recently labeled, the year 2000 (Y2K) came to mind! Would the world come to an end because technology would crash converting from 1999 to 2000? No! We're still here as is this "blob" top Excelsior, Hilo Soda Works bottle from the early 1900's; 100 years BEFORE Y2K was even a concern!

Then bottle #1969 was returned for cleaning & refilling. Hmmm. That was the era the painted label Hawai'i Beverages (from Hilo) soda bottle was still being returned for refill. It was also the decade the Beatles made their Ed Sullivan debut on American TV!

Even the #1976 bottle to be processed for refill brought back memories of the 1970's. Michigan passed its Bottle Bill in 1976, following the historic & successful Oregon Bottle Bill of 1971.

NO POHŌ & are working hard at keeping refillable glass bottles in use. We need your help, though. When you purchase The Locavore Store's ono coconut water or cold brewed coffee, please return the bottle & cap. You even get a $.50 per bottle store credit! You CAN make a difference. Say NO 🚫 to single-use containers! Join the &

Today at the Hilo Food Hub, this rainbow appeared & seemed to land on the Young Brothers' wharf in Hilo Bay. No big rigs hauling containers, no skip loaders, no barges, just the rainbow. I needed this sign of affirmation today! NO POHŌ & are on the right path to help Hawai'i Island become more self-reliant & weather the supply disruptions that threaten the vitality of our locally-owned, small businesses. Our pilot has ended & now we will look at the results, fix what needs fixing, keep what works, & thoughtfully, purposefully, seek potential partners to join us in the movement, &

Behind the scenes with our refillable glass bottles.

Did you know uses 200+ coconuts to extract about 6 gallons of fresh coconut water to fill 5 dozen 12 oz bottles? It takes a lot of work to collect this ono water from Mother Nature! Mahalo for letting me watch the filling process, .🥥🌴

no.poho The NO POHŌ pilot glass bottle washing project has begun! These old milk bottles from Honomū & Hilo dairies were used & refilled again & again. The Locavore Store will do the same. They are partners with Coconut Trader & Clean Slate 808 to keep glass bottles in circulation through repeated use. The Locavore Store (TLS) is now using refillable, 12 oz glass "milk" bottles for their coconut water (from coconuts grown on Hawai'i Island) & their own cold brew coffee. 🥥🌴 Supply chain disruptions? No more! Through NO POHŌ, bottles will be delabeled, rinsed & returned to TLS to be washed, sanitized & filled again.

Mahalo to Vibrant Hawaii Island for a microgrant to Coconut Trader to help build resilience & sustsinability in our community's food systems! 🌱🥕 And another mahalo from Coconut Trader to Zonta Club of Hilo for a Pay It Forward microgrant! Both grants have been applied towards the purchase of 4,800 refillable bottles!

Follow us to keep posted on NO POHŌ's progress. Mahalo for supporting our locally-owned small businesses, such as The Locavore Store!💚
