How to go through health challenges with kids?
When itā€™s all great until itā€™s suddenly not.
As mom of 4 it was always one of my biggest fears - what if Iā€™ll get sick? Well, now Iā€™m sick, so we know. Somewhat a relief as it happened to be not as scary as I envisioned it to myself. Life goes on.
I still wake up every morning and they all crawl in my bed to give me good morning kisses including the dog and a cat.
We still drink our morning tea even though it comes with getting settled through the morning pain and medications.
I canā€™t do much but Iā€™m here for my family and can give tasks, directions, talk stories and go through our daily routine just like we did. Sometimes Iā€™m in pain but Iā€™m withdrawing myself to deal with it not more than I did before with running tasks around the farm or managing business so actually they are getting more of me and my attention.
We are limited with hikes while Iā€™m not strong enough to walk but we can go to the ocean and hang in there, arenā€™t we lucky?
They canā€™t hug me rough as they used to as my skin hurts so they learned to give me those specifically gentle hugs even my lil boy and that is so precious.
They are of course worried seeing me so sick for the first time in their life but they took it as it is and adopted momentary and just go on with that so I had nothing but to follow the same attitude.
Life goes on.
I canā€™t do the things I used to so Iā€™ll change. Itā€™s ok. Changes by itself are not bad actually.
I washed the dishes today. First time in 6 weeks. All on my own feet with my own hands. I decided to try a folk, then a plate, then a cup, then I washed it all. Only broke one cup. My hands were very distant and uncoordinated at first but I managed. Took more time and one cup got broken. But doable and done. So it is not as scary as I thought. Breath out. Day 43

Sometimes we need to slow down, in my case - to stop completely. Pause. Was sitting with Honu at Onekahakaha for long time. She was not moving neither was I. Looks like my current state. It hurts a lot but Iā€™m here and it is beautiful

Hilo hospital is packed, no space. After spending over 24 hrs at ER floor I decided to proceed on my own with my huge bag of pills. I almost left without steroids (glad I checked the bag). And I did left with wrong dosage (to be fixed). But I made it home. All the stuff that kills the pain seems to be killing my brain as well as I canā€™t think straight at all. The moment I turn my head left, I forget. Would be funny if wonā€™t be so scary, For the next week Iā€™m planning to identify myself with cabbage and listen to my husband.

Update: we got back home! Serena is doing good for second day in a row that makes us very happy. Iā€™m back to ER with intense neck pain for more scans. Looks like the story is not over yet. But Iā€™m sure it will have a good end one day. Love you all ā™„ļø

Olgaā€™s recent hospitalization due to Rat Lungworm Disease has turned our world upside down. After being medivacked to Oā€˜ahu with her daughter Serena, they are now undergoing critical treatment. This disease is not only affecting their health but also halting the familyā€™s livelihood, including their beekeeping and market activities. We want to rally around them as a community to ensure they have the support they need during this challenging time. Your donations will help cover medical expenses and daily living costs as they navigate this uncertain journey. Please like, comment, and share this post to help us reach more people who can contribute to their recovery. Every bit counts in making a difference for Olga and her family.

If you are wondering where I am and why my booth at the farmers market is empty for weeks - hereā€™s why.
In thought if Iā€™ll ever go for crowdfunding it will be some very important nonprofit fundraiser that will help the big cause (like saving penguins that got trapped at Moku Ola after bridge collapse) or it will be some outstanding life-changing business idea to fund.
The reality happened to be not as cool. Iā€™m sick. Sick no jokes. Donā€™t know for how long and who else from the family will join me on that journey.
I always thought I can manage everything. This time I canā€™t.
So Iā€™m asking for help. Until Iā€™ll be back on feet (and I will).
Mahalo for helping us on this journey! Mahalo Mahalo Mahalo
