I hope y’all are in the mood for fall soups and stews because that little rain we had overnight did wonders for these beauties! I’m delivering pounds and pounds of perfectly plump shiitake mushrooms to Kaja’s Farmers Market- new page this morning with more coming tomorrow and the next day! With our long hot summer behind us, a little rain, and cool nights, we are going to have an absolute bumper crop of shiitake mushrooms in the next few days- just look at all those pins! In the second picture you can see the whitish mycelium, the main “plant” of the mushroom, spreading out under the bark of the log and eating all the high-sugar cambium and sapwood. The mushroom “fruit” that we eat is bursting out through the bark! These fresh shiitakes, jars of dried shiitakes, and fresh duck eggs will be available later this week at Kaja’s Farmers Market- new page
