The way you harvest basil matters more than you think and this is the one thing that changed everything for me.

Cut at the Y. Every single time. Instead of pulling leaves off the stem, find where the branch splits into a Y shape and cut just above it. This tells the plant to grow two new stems where there was one, which means more basil, faster, all summer long. Cut from the top down and never let it flower – the second it goes to seed the leaves turn bitter and the plant thinks its job is done. Stay on top of it and your basil plant will keep producing all season.

This is the kind of thing nobody tells you and once you know it you’ll never harvest basil any other way. Save this for your garden this summer.

Comment RECIPE below and I’ll send you the links to all four of these summer galette recipes.

Galette season is here and these four are on permanent rotation in my kitchen all summer long. An easy homemade galette crust that is completely worth making from scratch – flaky, buttery, and the kind of thing that makes people think you spent way more time than you actually did – plus four fillings that cover every craving. Cherry tomato galette with Parmesan crust, heirloom tomato galette with basil and Parmesan, zucchini galette with a pesto ricotta spread, and a blackberry galette with basil sugar for when you want something a little indulgent. Sweet or savory, this is the easy summer galette recipe situation you didn’t know you needed.

The homemade crust works for every single one and once you make it you’ll never buy premade again.

Salty Days is opening their second location in Marshfield tomorrow for dinner, doors at 4, and Eric and I got a sneak peek last night at their staff preview!

Sean and Joanne are two of our favorite people and watching this space come together has been so exciting! This location has everything the Cohasset spot is known for plus a full bar with some of the best cocktails on the South Shore right now – the Watermelon Hugo Spritz and the Blood Orange Margarita were a tie for me, and Eric couldn’t stop talking about his Paper Plane and the Smoked Pineapple Old Fashioned. Espresso Martinis, an extensive wine and beer list, and a bigger space with decor that doesn’t miss a single detail. Wait until you see the bathrooms- they are gorgeous!

If you haven’t been to Salty Days, think elevated American with a full sushi bar – genuinely the best sushi on the South Shore – plus some really fun fusion dishes mixed in. We eat at the Cohasset location weekly, if not more, and last night we tried things we’d never had before: Sushi Pizza and the Sandy Beach Roll to start, then Seafood Bucatini and Scallops with Risotto for our mains. Everything was incredible and the service was top notch from start to finish.

Doors open at 4 tomorrow in Marshfield. Go, and don’t skip the Swedish Fish on your way out (Charlotte’s favorite)!! saltydaysfish

South Shore moms – there is a new children’s resale and vintage clothing shop in Cohasset that you need to know about right now.

The Children’s Mayflower is a curated kids resale boutique that just opened in Cohasset, MA and it does not look or feel like any secondhand children’s clothing store you have been to before. We are talking Bobo Choses, Rylee and Cru, Misha and Puff, Mini Boden, Janie and Jack – the kids clothing brands you actually want, handpicked and priced for resale. It is the kind of children’s secondhand shop that makes you feel good about how you are dressing your kids and what you are spending to do it. Behind it are two South Shore moms, DaleAnn and Natalia, who built exactly the shop they wished existed – and it shows in every single piece they carry.

Follow THE CHILDREN’S MAYFLOWER and get on their list. South Shore moms, this one is for us – send this to every mom you know right now.

Here is exactly how I used everything from last week’s Hingham Farmers Market haul – because buying local is only as good as actually eating it.

Salads every single day with green lettuce, arugula, and mesclun mix from and Freitas Family Farm – we genuinely did not go a day without one. Strawberries from Andrew & Kate | Aeonian Farm in yogurt bowls with Sommers' Bounty native strawberry jam, which is my single favorite treat at the market right now and if you have not tried it yet I do not know what you are waiting for. Asparagus from Freitas Family Farm on the side of basically everything because that is just how we live in this house. Cheeseburger dumplings from Mei Mei Dumplings – I am fully addicted and every flavor they make is worth trying. And a leftover market favorite that has been living in my fridge: To Dine For Bulgarian feta with Copicut Farms eggs on English muffins, which is the kind of simple combination that makes you wonder why you ever order breakfast out. alyssa | kneady mama sandwich loaf with homemade chicken salad was also a hit!

This is why I go every single Saturday. The Hingham Farmers Market is running now through the season – if you are on the South Shore, come find me there. Hingham Farmers Market

Farmers market haul from the Hingham Farmers Market this Saturday and this week’s finds did not disappoint.

Aeonian Farm (Andrew & Kate | Aeonian Farm ) – strawberries, scallions, green lettuce

Freitas Farm ( Freitas Family Farm ) – asparagus, mesclun mix, arugula

Kneady Mama (alyssa | kneady mama ) – sourdough sandwich loaf, cinnamon rolls

Mei Mei Dumplings (Mei Mei Dumplings ) – cheeseburger dumplings (yes, really, and yes they are that good)

Copicut Farms (Copicut Farms ) – chicken feet and eggs

This is what peak Saturday morning looks like and I would not trade it for anything.

Stay tuned this week – I am sharing a video on pullet eggs from Copicut that you are not going to want to miss, and a full walkthrough of how I use everything from this haul throughout the week. If you are on the South Shore, this is your weekly reminder that the Hingham Farmers Market is worth every Saturday morning. Hingham Farmers Market
