You won’t find a guy better than Jimmy Boyd. We love working with him and it’s awesome seeing him highlighted!

This week’s Farmer Friday features Jimmy Boyd of Boyd Farms in Hodgenville, Kentucky.

Established in 1970, Boyd Farms has a long history of growing crops in LaRue County. Jimmy began farming alongside his dad when he was just 9 years old, developing a passion for agriculture at an early age. Today, he continues to work alongside his family to keep the farm running and build on the foundation established more than five decades ago.

Jimmy earned his bachelor’s degree in agriculture business and accounting from Western Kentucky University. He is thankful for the education he received and the knowledge it has provided him, both on and off the farm. “Being able to work with my family every day is very rewarding,” Jimmy said. “I especially cherish the time I get to spend farming with my dad.”

At Boyd Farms, the family maintains an even split between corn and soybeans, with all of their soybeans being genetically modified varieties. Jimmy handles much of the farm’s spraying, including drone spraying, and has seen how advancements in precision agriculture have helped improve their operation.

As farming technology continues to evolve, tools like agricultural drones provide new ways to approach field management and make the most of available resources. He recognizes the importance of embracing these developments to help the farm operate efficiently and remain competitive in an ever-changing agricultural industry.
“New technology has really helped us stay efficient and competitive,” Jimmy said. “It’s important to continue learning and make the most of the tools available to us.”

While technology plays an important role in the farm’s success, family remains at the center of Jimmy’s farming experience. From starting out alongside his dad at just 9 years old to taking on more responsibilities today, his journey reflects the value of passing down knowledge, working together, and appreciating the opportunities agriculture provides. Jimmy is grateful for the opportunity to farm with his family and encourages others to appreciate what they have and make the most of the land entrusted to them.
