What a day on the farm!! Started with installing a caught swarm of bees in their new hive. Went to work to evacuate and remove a huge heat pump to relevel the ground and reinstall it to running capacity. Ran 3 commercial cooler calls and a residential ac call. Then came home to feed and harvest shiitake only to find worker bees all returned to the swarm trap I left for the stragglers to go into the hive to their queen. Got them in the hive and completely removed the trap for temptation as it smelled more like the queen than the new hive. Then fed pigs and harvested shiitake at 9:30. The outdoor mushrooms are doing well with the humidity and warm night temps though.

Big news is coming out of Mid-MO Homestead Expo headquarters, and we could not wait any longer to share it. Mark your calendars: the Spring 2027 Mid-MO Homestead Expo is officially set for April 9th and 10th, and we are moving into the Mathewson building at the Missouri State Fairgrounds. More space, more vendors, more speakers, more of everything you loved about this year.

We are also in the early stages of planning a fall event, so stay tuned for details on that as things come together. We want to make sure we do it right before we shout it from the rooftops.

In the meantime, we are getting close to opening things up for vendors and speakers/teachers for the spring expo. Been a busy day on the farm. 200ish pounds of mushroom substrate made and in the sterilizer. Bees checked and doing well. Assembled about 70 frames and foundation for the bees. And the grass is mowed, not w**d eated. Still pumping creek water to shiitake logs at 10:30 for next week. And found an out of season lions mane in the log yard. What a day!!

We’ve caught another swarm. We are about to start rearing our own queens and next year will be the most abundant year we have ever had. We will have a lot of honey this year, but next year looks very promising. By next spring we should be over 20 hives. All with the added bonus of mushroom mycelium which has been proven to help prevent colony collapse syndrome. Winning, winning!! We strive to give only the best!!
