We've had a last minute cancelation by a small group for our Infrastructure Improvement Dinner this Sunday, August 2nd at 4:30 PM! This will be our only farm dinner of 2026 and a wonderful way to support our farm business and family in our efforts to preserve and restore the historic English Threshing Barn here at Hart Farm.

Participants will be automatically entered into a raffle where winners will be called out between courses. Additionally, there will be a silent auction full of excellent items going on throughout the evening!

There is some real confusion about what defines "local meat." Meat which was processed locally (cut, ground, smoked, cured - what have you) but not farmed in Maine often gets to share the same definition as meat which was farmed in Maine.

I'd argue that meat which was processed locally but not farmed in Maine should not rise to level of getting to be referred to or associated with the word "local."

I think many folks buying meat associated with the word local assume they're buying locally raised meat as an alternative to conventional, factory farmed meat.

For the sake of protecting the value established by Maine farmers, we should more strictly define this word

We're living through an odd moment in the history of American agriculture. With a whole generation of farmers headed for retirement, we need a tidal wave of young people to own farmland but we've stacked the deck in the opposite direction. This is as much a food security issue as it is an ecology issue, and fundamentally a matter of rural economics.

Our family is apart of this 1st generetion movement of farmers looking to bring energy and investment to the useful and rugged infrastructure of Maine's agricultural past. These old Maine farms can have a new life but it takes investment beyond what of a former line cook and social worker could scrape and save before buying Hart Farm.

While we've done our best since 2019, our barn needs a bit more help! We are hosting a fundraising dinner on August 2nd to address the structural needs of our rare 19th century English Threshing Barn.

Purchase tickets on our website for a multi-course dinner here at the farm (our only one of the season!) and get entered into a raffle during the meal for butcher boxes, gift cards to local businesses, and more.
