The Visser family currently farms over 300 acres of land to grow everything from radishes and carrots to sweet corn and potatoes. Each year we grow a large variety of produce and sell at 7 area farmers markets as well as our newly opened Country Market. We offer deliveries to restaurants and also provide CSA memberships with pick up locations at all of our markets and our farm.

Can you remember a more lush start to September? These last rains have made things so green on our farm!
Unfortunately, the tomatoes have not loved the heavier rains and we now have disruption to our availability of large quantities. The half bushels are first come, first serve & there will be times we cannot get any. I suspect they will slowly shut off producing as the next weeks go on. We still have nice amounts of our Signature Sweet Corn, Green Beans, and now we are seeing some nice quantities of potatoes and onions. We’ll be able to get more volume of cabbage and cauliflower as the month goes on. We have beautiful leek, celery, lettuce, hot and sweet pepper varieties. All of these items will be available, rain or shine, at these stops today:

At our Country Market, we have all of our farm’s produce & meat and many other locally sourced items. We like to support people and products our family has relationships or experience with. We hope you all had a lovely long Labor Day weekend. There were still ripe vegetables to pick and several tasks on the farm to tend to Monday. A few of us girls found time to get some canning and freezing done, and then we ended the night with most of us having pizza, swimming and visiting by the pool at Mom & Dad’s.

Today, Tuesday, we are back at it & you’ll find us at these farmer’s markets:

Our Country Market is open with regular hours. We have a wide variety of produce and fruit, including Concord grapes, which are in season for about 2-3 weeks each September. We love to can the juice using a steam juicer, but our kids also love to devour them, pinching the skins to eat the flesh and spit out the seeds.

We’re going to be slowly transforming the Country Market for autumn and you’ll be able to enjoy our pumpkin spice and apple cinnamon donuts soon. We have a lot of work ahead of us this week and there’s a lot of vegetables to harvest.
We appreciate your business now, more than ever. We know it’s convenient to shop big box stores with the apps and deliveries, but now is when we have to begin placing orders for seeds, soil, trays, irrigation supplies, fertilizer, hanging baskets, and all the supplies we need for next year. When you support local producers, you help them beyond today and we thank you!

As much as it pains us to say this, we have to share that our tomatoes have not liked these last few days of heavy rains. They are splitting badly and while we can often get a good plenty through most of September, I don’t think we’ll be able to do that this year. We will have limited quantities today. We’ll see what things do after the holiday.

At each of our farmers markets, we have beautiful green and yellow beans, Brussels Sprouts, cabbage, hot and sweet peppers, eggplant, cucumbers, onions, zucchini, delicious sweet corn, grape and cherry tomatoes, several varieties of potatoes, radishes, carrots, cauliflower, lettuces, celery, green onions, beets, and much more!

Happy September! Can you believe we’re here already?
Let’s talk about what to expect this month!

Now is the perfect time to get your corn & beans preserved. Tomatoes should be around for a little while yet.
💚 Green Beans are available by the half bushel for $25 or 2 for $45.
🌽 Our famous Signature Sweet Corn is $45 for a bushel (60 ears).
🍅 Roma Tomatoes are $28 for a half bushel, 2 for $50.
🍅 Round Tomatoes are $25 for a half bushel, 2 for $45.

🥫When selecting tomatoes for canning, you’ll want to consider how many quarts or pints you’re hoping to make. (A half bushel of regular tomatoes makes anywhere from 12-18 quarts.) You’ll also want to think about how long it will be until you process them. We sort tomatoes by ripeness and if you want them for the same day or following morning, choose softer and more red tomatoes. If you won’t get to them for a couple of days, select firm tomatoes and place them on newspaper or a tablecloth in a cool, dimly lit space like a basement or mud room.

At our Country Market, several fruit items will be changing seasons in the next couple weeks.
🍑 Coralstar peaches are nearing the end of their season. They are $38 for a half bushel. This is a really nice large, free stone variety, good for canning, freezing, or eating. We’ll have some later varieties after this, but they will not be in as plentiful supply.
🍇 Concord Grapes will be in soon. Start thinking about delicious juice, perfect for the cold/flu season! Stay tuned!
🍉 Watermelon & Cantaloupe are winding down. Please come enjoy them while you can.
🍎 Honeycrisp, Northern Spy & Gala apples are beginning to make their way onto our shelves. We’ll get more plentiful amounts & more varieties in a few weeks.

🎃 Pumpkins, fall squashes, cabbage, leek, beets, cauliflower, and many other delicious fall items are coming along nicely on the farm. Keep an eye out for them!

It’s fun to try new things! We have some delicious new options for you to keep your eyes peeled for at your next trip to the farmers market! (We do not grow any GMO produce items.)

Peter Wilcox Potatoes are a delicious purple potato with a bright golden flesh. These are good for any purpose, but I confess I have yet to get some into my kitchen to see what we like them best for. We’d love to know what you think! We grow several potato varieties so there’s something for everyone.

We also have WHITE onions in addition to our mainstay, an all purpose yellow. White onions have a crisp, sharp flavor when eaten raw and tend to break down faster when cooked. Yellow onions turn sweet and caramelize beautifully. We hope you have fun with the different flavors & endless possibilities.

At the Country Market, we’re enjoying some additional produce options from local producers. We have Coralstar peaches, Bartlett Pears, the first Honeycrisp Apples, a few Northern Spy, and hope to be getting Concord Grapes in September. Cantaloupe & Watermelon will be here till Labor Day while supplies last. You can find some of these delicious fruit options at our Ada & Waukazoo markets as well.

We are approaching the autumn season, but please know we have a lot of exciting options coming soon! Don’t stop visiting us just because the weather changes - we have a LOT of food!

Our little Country Market continues to grow & because we're open year round, we are in need of some additional support and help.
If you love to work physical jobs in fast paced environments, then look no further. We anticipate being quite busy for the holidays and we're already planning for next year!

DONUT MAKERS:
⏲️4-20 hours a week (hours fluctuate with seasons)
🗓️Days: Monday - Saturday
Must be able and willing to perform the following tasks:
- Be on time very early in the morning
- Follow recipe instructions
- Brew coffee
- Perform housekeeping tasks like washing dishes, mop the floor, wipe surfaces, and restock products as needed
- Use the donut machine responsibly
- Assist with planning ahead flavors, toppings, decorations
- Monitor inventory and supplies
- Perform tasks within a certain time constraint to ensure orders are completed on time.
- At times of high traffic, multi tasking is sometimes needed and serving ice cream may also be required.
- Not required, but certainly a plus is if you are an excellent home baker, have experience working in a commercial kitchen, have knowledge about food safety or have completed ServSafe certification in the past.
* Must be 18 years or older. Starting pay is $14 -15 and will be based on performance. Higher rates may be earned.

RETAIL SALES ASSOCIATE:
⏲️5-25 hours a week (hours fluctuate with seasons)
🗓️ Days Monday - Saturday
Must be able to:
- Operate cash register accurately & perform basic math.
- Assist customers with their inquiries and provide exceptional customer service to enhance their experience.
- Stock shelves and organize merchandise to ensure the store remains tidy and appealing.
- Sort & display produce
- Perform some housekeeping like emptying trash, washing windows, or wiping down surfaces
- Lift heavy crates and boxes, up to 50 lbs
- Multi-task effectively by balancing various responsibilities throughout the shift.
- Keep the store clean, organized, and safe for both customers and staff.
- Prior experience in retail sales or customer service is preferred but not required.
- Excellent communication skills and a friendly attitude towards customers.
- Willingness to work in a very physical environment that will require standing for extended periods.
- Some bonuses (but are not required) are if you have neat handwriting, are a proficient canner or love to cook, think creatively about displaying product or love to decorate for seasons.
