We have had some questions on where did some of our young cows go. Algie, Alice, and David are in the big barn being weaned off their moms. As most know, we have had a lot of help over the years and also helped other local farmers. We all help each other. Matt Wakefield and Ed Berry are two of those friends. Both have children. Both want to teach their Children where their food comes from and farming. Just like kimball farm helped us get started, we are helping The Wakefield and Berry families get started. Nina and Marley we sold to the Wakefield’s. The kids changed their names to cinnamon and Oreo. 😂. We then sold the Berry’s Olive and Aunt E. Eventually lacy will be going to the Berry’s as well. We appreciate matt and Ed’s help over the years. Hopefully them and their families will be farming for generations to come.

We have started to wean last falls calves from their mothers. We got Alice moved Sunday before the rains came. They will be talking back and forth between mom and calf the next few days. Need to apologize to our neighbors. Just like humans cows need to get off their moms at some point.

We have a cow we are sending to butcher as soon as she is sold. We have a 1/4 or a half available. $4.00lbs hanging weight. You pay for the butchering. Let Bev or Sonny know.
Thank you.

We have our first batch of Cornish cross meat chickens in. Right now they’re the size of a chicken nugget but in 8 weeks they will be 4-8lb roaster chickens. We are going to have roasters and also going to part a bunch out into breast, legs, thighs and wings. Let us know how much you would like so we can add you to our list.

We took Hunter, Mason and Noah on a Sunday adventure. The boys met me at the farm at 4:40am. We headed to the Picard little acre farm in east Dayton. To meet up with Joseph Picard and headed to Gardner to pick up a few jersey heifers for JP. This was the biggest farm the boys had ever been too as they were milking 60 head. We left Gardner about 7:15am. We decided as we were going through Auburn to stop at our friend Chris Lewis’s farm. When I was the boys ages we use to buy grain from Chris’s grandfather Bill Lewis in Buxton. Then I coached One of his nephews in hockey. The boys were in heaven there as they helped Chris’s wife and two daughters clean , bed and feed the 40 calf’s. Chris, the family and 2 farm helpers mill about 200 cows with 400 on sight. When we arrived back in east Dayton about 11 am we see one of JP’s cows were about to calf. We helped him but the cow in a birthing pen. Then we came back home to shovel out our barn and clean the feeding pad. The boys were able to see about 700 cows. They see jerseys, guernsey’s, Holsteins, Hereford, angus, pinsgauges and short horn breeds. Very good learning experience for a few kids that want to farm.

We are very lucky at the farm that the next generation wants to farm. I used to have some great teen age help for a lot of years but really don’t anymore. Luckily have 3 cousins, a niece and Nephew ages 6-11 who wants to help. The future is looking great over the next 10 years at the farm if we can keep their interest.
