Raychell’s Path
I think it was 2008 or '09. I was sitting at the porthole having brunch with an old friend. We were talking about ideal societies. I expressed that my ideal society would be a small community living on land that belonged to everyone and we would all contribute in different ways doing work that we loved and supported each other and the community. You could label this vision, but I am choosing not to at this point to stay away from labels and political connotation... because that label means something else now. It was at this moment that I stared off in space and let so many ideas rush through my head. I thought about what it would be that I myself could contribute. It hit me... I had interest in plants. That was it... I had a vague impersonal uneducated liking for plants... I looked up Michael Pollen and started going to school for Horticulture in the fall of 2009. I would say that the rest was history but it is not that simple. I had so many distractions, upsets. I thought my ideas were gone or changing. I remember waking up one day and remembering that goal I had years ago and here I was living around plants and learning so much about them that I could potentially grow and eat off the land. I wanted my own land... I fought the currents to try to get it. Then when the opportunity presented itself to just live on my mother's land and help farm, I hesitated and then... I went. I am so blessed to have a supportive companion who is willing to take this strange unconventional path to farming with me. We are living so humbly but we feel like royalty.
Why the name Fervor? Fervor means intense passion, and intense heat. I am very passionate about farming, if I wasn’t farming as a career, I’d just be farming for free. The intense heat and flames? well flame cooks food and destroys things. Frankly, I adore both destruction and cooked food.
