This weekend Farmer Jeff whipped up a dill ranch dip that was delicious and a pasta dish with kohlrabi, broccolini and some greens. When veggies are backyard fresh, it is easy to let their flavors sing!

It's Wednesday and that means it's a great day for a CSA pickup! In Week 2, our members will be greeted by freshly-harvested and chemical-free garlic scapes, dill, red kohlrabi, head lettuce, swiss chard, red kale, dino kale, curly kale, full size bok choy, and mini broccoli.

Our farm stand isn't open for the season yet but you can find us at the Milford Farmers Market of NH on Saturday if you want to get in on this harvest!

🥬Let us talk about lettuce!🥬
Did you know lettuce doesn't like summer heat? The shoulder seasons are lettuce's time to shine. We will get a few weeks of harvest and then say goodbye until the cooler fall temperatures start rolling in.
🥬
Over the last few years, we have had good luck in extending lettuce season here in Hollis, NH by growing on white plastic. The white keeps the ground and plant a little cooler and therefore, a little happier for a little longer.
🥬
In conclusion, don't take the lettuce for granted, enjoy it now!

Leave me a 😮 if that is new information and a 😎 if you were already in-the-know!

The roller crimper made its inaugural roll across the rye! We have started the work transitioning to no-till for our squash and pumpkin crop, in partnership with the Hillsborough County Conservation District.

A few weeks ago we announced that our farm had been awarded a Climate Resilience Grant through our local Hillsborough County Conservation District. The grant allowed us to buy a few pieces of equipment necessary for no-till operations and now we are putting the plan into action.

We chose the field with the healthiest stand of rye and used the roller crimper to terminate the rye, laying it down where it will form a thick straw mulch. The no-till transplanter will then transplant young seedlings through that mulch. We do this to keep weeds down, conserve soil moisture and add organic matter. With the selected rye stand at just about 6 feet all, this stand produced very roughly 10-14,000 lbs of biomass, which will help build the topsoil. We'll run over it a few more times with the roller crimper, and then plant into it.

If you've ever seen the phrase "regenerative farming" and wondered what that meant, this is a great real-life example.

Rebounding from that cold snap real quick, Farmer Jeff and our crew wasted no time getting cucumbers and ground cherries into the field. Now the plants get to take advantage of this beautiful week!

The plants are loving this heat, lets goooo!

Good news - Our seedlings seem to have weathered the May frost just fine here in Hollis. Phew! Pictured are our survivor peppers and tomatoes.

We are weeks into getting the summer harvest seedlings transplanted out of the greenhouse and into the warming ground. The first phase of corn is planted, these tomatoes and peppers are all in, along with flowers and eggplant.

It was a crisis averted that cucumbers weren't planted yet as the cold probably would have killed them. Cucumbers are up next to be planted.

Happy June!

Hey it's cold out there! This is a rough weather day and a good time to highlight how important Hollis farms are to this region. Just a town or two over, just a little higher elevation, it was snowing. Hollis farmland is worth conserving.

Check out an article Farmer Jeff wrote for The Positively Hollis Post , "Hollis Agriculture's Role in Local and Regional Food Security" to learn even more about this town's unique assets - link in the comments.

Another cold snap is coming through, another row cover deployed to keep everyone safe. Tucked in under here are our eggplant seedlings. The best tasting baba ganoush you've ever had starts right here!

Well this is quite the temperatures roller coaster, isn't it! We're expecting cold temperatures tonight so the zucchini is all tucked in, warm & toasty. The row cover will give just enough insulation to keep any of the seedlings from getting a chill.
