February had me back on a harvest machine at night. At 46, that kind of sleep deprivation is kryptonite. You spend enough hours out there and you start taking inventory whether you want to or not. Sometimes you end up sitting in the s**t a little longer than you’d like.

We’ve been busy, and I’m grateful for it. But it’s been triage. Labor, weather, breakdowns, transportation. All at once. One glitch and I’m dumping vegetables. That’s how tight it gets.

There’s a familiarity in the struggle that makes small wins feel foreign. Like they don’t quite belong yet. 2026 has been a little bit of everything so far. Frying pan into the fire, just like usual.

Five trips. Dozens of presentations. Countless smiles.

From unknown outsider to a Spinaca powder selling out across Korean shopping networks, it’s been a wild ride.

Cowboy hat? Still here. Confused? Occasionally. Clapping along? Of course. Loving every second? Absolutely.

The journey continues, and Seoul hasn’t seen the last of us.

California soil. Korean hustle.

When a California farmer in a cowboy hat ends up on a Korean live shopping show, you just roll with it.

Smile a lot. Nod like you understand everything. Let that organic California kale be the star of the show.

Next thing you know Spinaca powders under Label the Earth sells out.

I’m still about 70% sure I have no idea what’s happening… but Jang Young-ran seems confident, so we’re going with it.

Cowboy hat ✔
California farmer ✔
Finding myself on a Korean shopping network set trying to figure out what’s going on ✔

Somehow our Spinaca powders under Label the Earth sold out on YouTube and other Korean shopping networks… so maybe we’re doing something right.

Still not sure what Jang Young-ran said here, but I’m pretty sure it was good.

In the meantime I just smile a lot.

California soil. Korean hustle.

Knowing when to step back // In areas outside my core strengths, like designers, formulators, and specialists, I’ve learned the best way to lead is often to get out of the way.

I rarely tell a graphic designer how to design or a formulator how to formulate. I set expectations, then let people take the lead within that framework.

People do their best work when they are trusted to own it. Different teams want different things, but the needs underneath are usually the same.

Chin Up; Head Down // At the end of the day, we all want to progress. We all want to feel valued, especially when the headwinds are strong.

People are looking for answers—about the economy, about AI, about the future. And sometimes the only answer I have is: do the best you can with what’s in front of you.

Leadership doesn’t mean having all the answers. Sometimes it just means showing up steady when the world feels anything but.

I never set out to be a leader // Being a leader of people was never a goal I set out to accomplish. I don’t particularly like it, and I’m not sure I’m especially great at it.

What I do understand is the value of leadership, and that it’s something you learn and grow into over time.

When people ask me my leadership style, I say, “I’m like a chameleon, changing with the backdrop.” Different people and situations need different approaches.

Most of the time, that works. Other times, I’m cleaning up messes. That’s leadership.
