This year has been a very DRY one.
Our natural pond even dried up. That's never happened.
But hopefully the water table rises soon, with more rain in the near future.

So for this season we set up drinking stations (also big enough to jump in for a duck) all around the property.
They even have a kiddie pool out by the barn.

I've noticed they like to stick near the house with the pond empty. I'm pretty sure it's cause I throw snacks out and scraps from cooking throughout the day. Haha

Thankfully they haven't eaten much of my herbs growing. And the ones they would eat I keep on our porches so they aren't tempted 😉🦆

This delicious salad makes for a yummy and light meal on these super hot days!

Watermelon 🍉
Fresh peaches 🍑
Blueberries 🫐
Some red onion
Mint leaves crushed (I used our mojito mint leaves from the garden)
lime juice
And a bit of feta if you want!

That's it. Easy peasy

This spring we weren't sure if we were going to hatch any babies... With one male in the flock, some of the broody Mamas were sitting on unfertilized eggs.
But turns out we had a few! We had four broody Mamas ... Two of which were on a nest that hatched one baby. So the Man went to tractor supply and found three little khakis that we skipped into the nest as well. Both Mamas then went with the babies in our "nursery" run.

The second two Mamas hatched within the same two days and so their babies ended up all together and both of them watched over for a week or so before they bailed and rejoined the flock. 😂
This will happen on rare occasions... Where a Mama will sit with her babies only a short time after they've hatched and then want to get back out on her own and free range with the others.. leaving the babies to fend for themselves.
When this happens, we open up a smaller coop for the babies to have food water and heat. And some monitored free ranging. Then once they get big enough they join the rest.

The Mamas who do raise their babies, will watch out for them, take them out to the pond and wander a little bit each day with them away from the nest.

All seven babies are now looking grown (although not yet ready to lay) and with the rest of the flock.

This Baby girl has been enjoying her outdoor time and loves seeing the ducks when they come by.
She has no fear, and they are definitely starting to get used to her too.

They've started coming up to her, mainly to see if she has any food. But they do watch her as well, cautiously at times. She's a new face and being, they have adjusted to. I'm sure they're gonna have to readjust once she's running around after them. 😂

For now she sits and waves to them. Crawls around and watched them and then tags along as we put them up at night.. waving goodbye as we close the door to the run.

Our little Bear is definitely starting off life as a duck lover.

We are selling this pair of American Bird geese, to a good home.
They are great lookouts and will alert the other animals .
They are a great domestic breed too. Not as noisy as some breeds and love roaming the yard.

Pulled the last little leaves before the freezing rain tonight
This is one of my favorite plants...
So soft and pretty
And so many good uses.
Mullein in tea a great antiinflammatory and coats and soothes throat, lungs, bronchials. It's also a good expectorant for loosening mucus.

I always have it on hand. And use it also for skin serums and ear oil for when earaches come around.
