We are selling this pair of American Bird geese, to a good home.
They are great lookouts and will alert the other animals .
They are a great domestic breed too. Not as noisy as some breeds and love roaming the yard.

Mullein
Pulled the last little leaves before the freezing rain tonight
This is one of my favorite plants...
So soft and pretty
And so many good uses.
Mullein in tea a great antiinflammatory and coats and soothes throat, lungs, bronchials. It's also a good expectorant for loosening mucus.

I always have it on hand. And use it also for skin serums and ear oil for when earaches come around.

The spring molting has begun... Lots of feathers floating around the yard and duck run.

This also means slower egg production.

If you happen to be on the list for eggs orders it may take a little longer.
If you have a larger order, you may consider making it a dozen or two at a time. 😉

Farm fresh Duck eggs available!
$7 a dozen

So many benefits to ducks eggs .. more nutrition, longer shelf life, 1duck egg = 1.5-2 chicken eggs.
They make for fluffier richer baked goods and you use less!

We currently have an extra four dozen

Welcoming Howard, Ghost face, and Grimas. These three pretty ducks have joined our flock in the last couple days!
They came in Sunday and spent a bit adjusting. Yesterday they free ranged with the rest of them and then went into the run at night with them too.

Howard is a bit outnumbered as he's the only male... But I don't think he'll mind.

They are slowly joining in with the others. Still sticking together.. but enjoying the free ranging! We also walked them to the pond yesterday... It took a bit to get them all the way across the yard 😂 but once they got in, they had a lot of fun splashing and diving around.

Today our newly adopted flock got to join our others for the afternoon.. some swimming and eating and everyone seems to be getting along.

Our geese are insisting on trying to be top of the pecking order, so tonight we kept them in the back of the run, separate from everyone else. Tomorrow they'll be free ranging all together again and hopefully figure out whose who.

At some point hopefully all four geese can go in together, as they tend to get territorial of their nesting space, in the spring.

As of Yesterday we have adopted this lovely little flock, who will soon join our own! Eight pretty lady ducks and two Geese.
We are giving them their own space for a couple days to allow them to settle in. It helps their internal gps to readjust and also gives them time to see our birds through the wire fence without having to intermingle yet.

These guys arrived just in time for a windy rainy night.. but today the sun will be shining (hopefully!)
Staying in the run until they feel safe and sound and then in another day or so we will let them start to free range with the rest.

So happy to have this addition to our farm! And yay for more eggs!

The ladies are laying!

We lost a huge part of our flock letter last year... Our fort Knox run was compromised in a small corner and a fox most likely got in and killed a majority of our birds. It was heartbreaking to see them all come morning. A few died from shock in the following days...
The surviving few were two geese, and eight female ducks. They were quite spooked for the following months... Only staying near our pond and straight back to the run at night.

This past month they've started to wander around again... I found them sitting through the leaves under some oaks and happily making their way around the property. They've also started laying and boy are they!
We plan to add to increase our flock again soon and hope to see happy ducks wandering around all day and laying more eggs for us!

We call it the walk of shame...
Cause after a phone call from my nice neighbor who informed me the geese were headed off the property., I had to go get them and walk them back where they belong.

Just about every fall our geese decide it's time to wander...
And for one year they found a nice neighbor who liked to throw them food... But the last couple years it's been a straight shot down the driveway, across the road, and over to the "airport". (For us that's just an open field of grass called a runway), where some small personal planes like to land from time to time.
Even though it's not in use a majority the time.. it's still not good for geese to be there. So after their second chance this week, they got penned up for the day. Hopefully they'll stay on the property or they're gonna have a few days in the run with no free-ranging..

Mama Goose (June)hatched five little babies last week..
Her and George are being excellent guardians and parents.
So are the two year old males.. older brothers and parents all circling around the babies, making sure they get where they need to go and they are guarded.
So easy to have the geese raise them. Only I miss out on scooping up the babies for snuggles...

These babies will be up for sale.
So will the two yr old males who grew up together.

Geese make excellent lookouts for a flock, they can see and hear and spot danger well before most animals. They also make good lookouts for the farm.. letting us know whenever someone new is on the property.
They make excellent farm additions. And our American Buffs are one of the rarer breeds around, friendly and less boisterous than some of the other breeds.
