Frankie is looking down at Casey like “Let’s go!”

Casey: “…I was actually planning on taking a nap.”

Just another normal day at Oliver’s Field.

Who needs water when you’ve got a patch of dry dirt?

My guineas were peacefully taking a dust bath when the chickens noticed and jumped right in.

Dust baths help keep their feathers clean and pest free, and they apparently provide fun and feel good moments too. Watching them flop, wiggle, and toss dirt over themselves is one of my favorite parts of sitting on the patio.

Just another peaceful day at Oliver’s Field…

Sasha has become the roosters’ favorite ever since Molly decided babies are better than romance.

I’ve seen these chicken saddles all over the internet, but I’ve never actually tried one until now. I hope it works and that it’ll help to protect her back and her feathers. She is a little too well loved right now.

When I put it on her last night, Sasha just froze. Then she waddled around like she’d forgotten how chickens work and nearly fell over a couple of times. I felt bad for laughing, but hopefully today will be better.

We’ll see if the saddle helps and if Sasha eventually forgives me for this.

Not bad for a little garden in the yard. Fresh zucchini, tomatoes, peppers, broccoli, and cucumbers all made their way into the basket today.

There is just something satisfying about walking out to the garden and bringing actual food back in with you.

Sometimes things break.

Wait… no. It seems like stuff breaks all the time. 😂

Today’s project wasn’t moving dirt. It was figuring out why the machine decided reverse was its new permanent direction.

One day you’re working with the equipment, the next day you’re working on the equipment.

I woke up this morning and immediately went out to see if I still have two terrible turkeys.

I didn’t see them anywhere so I called and they came running faster than I’ve ever seen them run. I don’t know if they stayed up there all night but they made it!

Apparently Elsa and Murphy have reached the teenage stage of life.

They’ve decided the coop I’ve provided is no longer acceptable and have been trying to sleep out in the grass like little terds who think they know everything. Not in a tree. Not inside a fence. Just out in the middle the yard on the grass.

We all know that’s not going to work! They will be eaten!

Tonight I found myself negotiating with two terribly dumb turkeys about where they want to sleep. So I’m out here carrying them around at bedtime trying to find a solution. . and finally placed them on top of the chicken coop instead.

Now I’m lying here wondering if Murphy, who only has one wing, is going to gracefully climb down in the morning or launch herself into a new adventure. One thing I know for sure is she can’t get back up there if she comes down. So let’s just hope she stays put tonight.

Wish me luck. Tomorrow morning may be interesting.
