Join our team and take the lead on craft malt production, from grain intake all the way to finished product. If you geek out over germination rates, love a clean production floor, and take pride in quality work, we want to hear from you (or if this sounds like someone you know then share this with them).

What you’ll do:
Manage the full malting process (steeping, germination, kilning)
Quality testing & food safety documentation
Packaging & order fulfillment
Equipment maintenance & facility upkeep

What we offer:
$25/hr to start
2 weeks PTO + 5 paid holidays + 1 week sick time

5+ years in grain handling, brewing, or food manufacturing preferred.

Testing out a winter 2-row variety called Avalon. It’s low protein, plump, and has a bit of dormancy and water sensitivity. We have 1 truckload of Avalon from and so we’ll be doing a few test steeps before trying to malt a full batch. From what we hear Avalon has great malt flavor with melon and honey notes. It is a public variety developed by the fine folks at Virginia Tech. Stay tuned for more on Avalon. Can you tell we’re excited šŸ»

Granite Grains Farm, A Farmer’s Path to Regenerative Growth
Tyler is a first-generation farmer, meaning he didn’t inherit land or step into a family operation. He started from scratch, growing vegetables on rented land and building his farm from the ground up.
Many people don’t realize just how hard it is to start a farm from scratch. The odds are truly stacked against first-generation farmers: land is expensive, equipment is costly, and access to stable markets is rare.
For Tyler, finding consistent demand, especially from local buyers like Valley Malt, made all the difference. That support helped him expand beyond vegetables into organic grain farming, where he saw real need from local maltsters, brewers, and distillers. He began growing corn for a tortilla company, pumpkins for seed contracts and fall sales, and eventually expanded into organic grain production to support the growing demand for regionally grown malt.
Farming organically brings its own challenges, but Tyler has made it work, and just this year, he purchased a 300-acre farm in Vermont. We’re not just proud to malt his grain, we’re proud to grow with him.
