I've been working on some content to help small-scale farmers succeed. Choosing your crops is top of the list - I think you'll be shocked by the difference between a cauliflower and a carrot. The link is in the comments!

As spring rolled into summer, it became obvious that many of our peony roots did not make it through last winter’s snowless deep freeze. Some of the ones that did sprout stems produced only a few. We decided the best thing to do was to replace some of the dormant or dead roots with varieties that we know we needed more of, but that’s no small job. These are large roots weighing 40 to 50 pounds. But you know what they say - starting is the hardest part. Today with a rockstar crew of four we were able to dig out 60 under performing roots and replace them with beautiful roots from a fellow farmer who is getting out of the peony biz. In a matter of hours, we were able to switch out a huge block, and for the first time this job seems like it might be manageable after all. Onward!

It’s our awesome Intern Lila‘s last Wednesday market and honestly, we just can’t believe her time on the Farm is wrapping up already! Pop by the market and wish her well on her journey back to Missoula. We hope we see her again around here real soon.

It’s not all about peonies … dropping these beauties off at Save-U-More right now. Who needs some beauty in the chaos of summer?
