Putney Farm

Putney Farm A 10 acre permaculture homestead dedicated to living in harmony with nature and helping others to learn to do the same.

The chemical free and no till homestead is filled with the happy murmurs of a freely roaming heritage chicken flock and nature sounds. Putney Farm; not what most folks would consider a "farm," is a 10 acre homestead. Once known for free-range eggs, they practice no till, no pesticide, and no artificial ingredients/type of gardening. Combining techniques gleaned from study of Ruth Stout, Mel Bartho

lomew (Square foot Gardening), French intensive, Permaculture, aquaponics, companion planting, bartering, and a few tricks of their own, the Putneys now enjoy a bountiful supply of eggs, beef, greens, fruits, medicinal and culinary herbs, teas of all sorts, flowers, and veggies growing at all levels of their forest garden. The putneys have transformed the top few inches of their entire plot from red clay and hard pan to spongy, friable, dark, rich with earthworms topsoil, which; like the forest floor, needs no fertilizer, nor tiller. You can come see the homestead, walk the trails, and pick up some duck eggs, plants from our nursery, or tidbits of info at pre-arranged times.

Putney Farm Nursery always has stinging nettles potted up for your purchase. While not native to the Upstate of SC, Stinging nettle readily grows on the edge of woodland settings and is easy to keep in bounds by mowing its edges. What are the health benefits of stinging nettle, and what does it look like?

Summary
Stinging nettles are plants with sharp hairs on their leaves. Potential health benefits include arthritis relief, reduction in seasonal allergies, and diabetes management.

However, there is limited research to suggest stinging nettle is an effective remedy, and more studies are necessary before researchers can confirm its health benefits.

This article explores what the research says about the benefits and uses of stinging nettle. It will also discuss potential side effects and how to use the herb.

We're not prefering one wildflower seed company over another; this is just an example of the possibilities. If we plant wildflowers, they will attract the beneficial insects that help control the pesty ones.
