This little guy was born 1 week ago today - 3 weeks early. It was a tough go having to help him nurse on his momma 5-6 times a day and keeping them separated from the rest of the herd. This morning I got up before sunrise and went out to check on baby and momma since last night was the first time baby stayed out in the pasture and not in his warm, dry enclosure. Preemie calves are usually born without a lot of fat to insulate from cold and wet and last night dropped below 50 here on the farm. Momma was right next to baby when I got out to them and baby got up to feed as they now associate me with feeding time 😆. With a little help from me directing him to his momma’s udder, he got a nice early morning breakfast. We have 8 more pregnant mommas here due to have their babies in the next week or two. Just so grateful this one is doing fine.
