No rain in forecast. Over an inch of rain falls. Precipitation year to date is almost at the annual average. Can't get hay equipment across fields because they are too wet? Turn the cows out to mow it down.

Ready to plant corn but mother nature has had other plans. Weather like we have had really makes us appreciate cover crops that keep our soil in place during these times. The cover crops look beautiful but we are ready to get corn in the ground. In the meantime we will just hurry up and wait.

Last weekend we finished up another busy harvest year by trying something new to us. We harvested, ground, and bagged our own shelled corn for our herd. It turned out really well and yielded exceptionally. Got some help from some friends with the combining and trucking to make the job easier.

Another year of chopping corn silage done. It yielded really well for us despite the worst bear damage I have ever seen on the farm.
Thankful for the dry ground conditions. Such a contrast to last year.
Less then 48 hours after starting to chop all the ground was seeded with cover crop to protect the soil, build organic matter, and hold nutrients until next year's crop.
