Lettuce restock! ☺️ Lettuce is probably my favorite crop to grow after tomatoes. So many different varieties, huge aesthetic variance, and every type has a story. Currently available: 1. Parris Island Cos (classic east coast romaine), 2. green Little Gem (crunchy mini heads), 3. Merveille des Quatre Saisons (red french heirloom with a bright green heart), and 4. Spotted Aleppo (rare, medieval-era Syrian romaine prized for its striking reddish-brown speckles). $2 a bag at the farm stand 🥬🥬🥬🥬🥬

Just when the rain finally stopped, our American Bresse chicks are old enough to go outside ☀️☀️☀️ They’ll spend the rest of their lives in protected outdoor spaces where they can roam and forage. As a slow-growing heritage breed (commonly called “the veal of chicken” for their amazing flavor) these birds will be ready for sale in early September. Only 50 available - now taking preorders! Details about reserving are on our website: Arro.farm

This year’s pigs have arrived and are more adorable than ever before! Usually by the time feeder pigs get to me, they’re 40-50lbs and growing fast. But this year my supplier’s sow stopped producing milk early, so the piglets were separated from their mother much earlier than typical. It’s been a lot of extra work caring for them while they are still tiny babies, but it’s also a lot of fun to spend time with them while they’re this cute - barely 10lbs! The runt of the litter was struggling a bit so he got his own pen in the barn for a few days; thankfully he’s stronger now and roaming with the rest of the pack again. If you’d like to preorder a whole or half pig for the fall, you can pay your deposit on our brand new website this year!

Heirloom cabbage starts are ready now 🥬🥬🥬🥬 Four types available, including two of my new interest for this year: conical shaped cabbage!
1 - Filderkraut: widely considered the ultimate cabbage for making traditional German sauerkraut.
2 - Kalibos: an old Eastern European variety with a high sugar content for shredding and adding to fresh salads or making a beautiful pink slaw.
3 - Tete Noire: a small, traditional French variety very rare outside of Europe; solid producer of firm, deep red heads.
4 - Violaceo Di Verona: a vintage heirloom cabbage that originated in the region of Verona in northern Italy, with stunning, lightly savoyed violet and green leaves.

Selling some of my extra starts this year! 🌱 Due to my mild tomatoes obsession, I have seeds for over 80 varieties to experiment with. My strategy to maximize variety this year is to plant just 3-5 of each variety and see what works best, then narrow down the list for next year. This leaves me with a lot of extras. I have classic favorite heirlooms like Pink Berkeley Tie Dye, Black Krim, and Cherokee Purple. Modern selections from breeders like Wild Board Farms and Sofia Saakova. Rare vintage varieties offered by Burpee’s in the 50s that are no longer commercially available. And finally, a few hybrids like Sungold and Zima, that have been grown out and stabilized over generations so that they reproduce true to the parent! $2 each, 3 for $5, help yourself at the farm stand 🥰 Cabbages coming next!

Farm stand grand reopening! For now only selling eggs (chicken and duck); plant starts (beginning with cabbage, cauliflower, leek, shallot, broccoli) to follow hopefully next week. Sign renovations are underway - once they are refreshed and repainted, you’ll start seeing them out along 371 and 191 again ☺️

The ducks have rediscovered the pond this spring! Despite living on it when they were young, last summer they refused to touch it. As the snow has melted and the weather warms up, they started roaming closer and closer to it on their daily foraging journeys … and then one day they ran straight over to it, dove in, and that’s been their daily hangout since! I worry about predator birds (compared to their fenced yard which is much safer), but they are so happy out there I can’t bear to keep them locked up all the time 😅🦆🦆🫶 quite a mystery, loving the pond then hating it then loving it again 🤷‍♀️

We have fresh multicolored chicken eggs available by the dozen or half dozen ($5/doz, $3/half). Their pretty shells are fun to look at, and once you crack one open you can see how much deeper and richer the yolk color is than a supermarket egg. Duck eggs will return soon too!
