What is Hawaii Beyond Tourism for?
It is for those of us who want to create a sustainable economy for us and our children on the Big Island over the next 50 years.
How do we do that?
We look at all types of technologies, industries, agriculture, and production to determine which of them are the healthiest for us and our keiki, which are the most sustainable for the island, and which will actually make us a decent living. We also inspect our current economic mainstays to see if they are healthy and sustainable in the long run.
What's the problem?
Most everyone we know is broke most of the time. Moms and Dads are working two and even three jobs just to afford the rent and to keep their beat-up old cars running. Kids never see their parents because they're too busy working. Grown children are constantly moving away from Hawaii to the Mainland because they can't find a decent job here in the islands. And families are still losing their homes to foreclosures.
We have a sick economy that doesn't take care of the basic needs of its people, that's the problem.
Who is "we"?
The Friend Family of Honokaa: Susanne (Mom), Victor, Jack, Lucky, Rose, and Tim (Dad). Plus anyone who thinks this is a good idea and wants to pitch in and work on it.
Are you out of your minds? How can just one family even make a dent in a problem so big? You got monster egos or what?
Probably. But we've watched government and private industry fail to come up with any solutions for the problem over the last 50 years while we lost sugar and pineapple, and saw tourism dwindle in 2020 to one-fifth of what it used to be.
And we've never been people who sat around while someone else took care of the weak, the poor, the widows and orphans. Jesus Christ and his brother James both said to, so we are.
You are welcome to post on this page if you have any ideas or input about this situation. We want to hear from everyone, and we want to hui with everyone to combine our mana'o. That's the only way we are ever going to impact this situation.
What is not welcome? Real estate ads; ads for tourist activities; or any postings that are hateful, use profanity, or disrespect any culture, religion, race, or ethnic group.
