50 students from the Punahou School Omidyar Neighborhood (K&1st) visited Kunia Country Farms on March 10, 2014.

This turned out to be a much larger project than expected. Huge footings, massive columns, overbuilt substructure. But if mainly kids are on deck, gotta do it properly. Cost is about double what we were budgeting, so the top shade structure will be modified to accommodate what we can afford. We decided on 1,500 square feet versus the budgeted 1,200 square feet.

Trex railings are delayed 2 weeks. Temporary rails are up, target completion date is pushed back to 11/15/13. I guess that's the price of living in paradise.

HONOLULU – Four Hawaii farms have been awarded a total of $62,000 in federal grants by the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) to help reduce their energy consumption and costs. Hawaii was one of 22 states that received funding under USDA’s Rural Energy for America Program (REAP).

On Tuesday, October 22, 2013, Waikele Elementary School 6th graders visited Kunia Country Farms to learn about commercial scale aquaponic farming. Ninety-five students with teachers and chaperones spent the morning learning about lettuce production, aquaculture, and composting.

A small zip-locked bag of Manoa Lettuce seeds from University of Hawaii Seed Lab. There are 25,000 seeds per ounce, so this 10 ounce bag has a quarter million seeds (enough for about 1 year of production at our current rate).
