While most are enjoying a little extra sleep on a Saturday morning, our crew at Stratton’s Custom Meats & Smokehouse is already up and hard at work!

There’s nothing quite like watching the sun rise over the mountains while doing what we love.

Early mornings, long hours, and hard work are all part of the job. We’re proud to provide on-farm slaughter services to our local farming community, and we’re grateful for the farmers who put their trust in us.

🍂 Hello, October! 🍂

There’s just something about October around here. The cool mornings, leaves changing, farmers finishing up long days, and everyone getting ready for the colder months ahead.

For us at Stratton’s Custom Meats & Smokehouse, this time of year means busy days and long hours — but it also reminds us how thankful we are to do what we do.

Behind every animal that comes through our doors is a farmer or family who has put months of hard work, time, and care into raising it. We never forget that. Being trusted to handle that final step means a lot to our family, and we’re grateful for every person who chooses Stratton’s.

As we head into another busy fall season, we just want to say thank you. Thank you for supporting our small family business, recommending us to your neighbors, and continuing to put your trust in us.

We hope you all get a chance to slow down for a minute and enjoy a little bit of October. 🍁

Do You Know What We Do at Stratton’s Custom Meats & Smokehouse?

We’ve realized that a lot of people in our area have heard of Stratton’s Custom Meats & Smokehouse, but may not actually know everything we do!

We are a family-owned and operated custom livestock processing facility in Hoosick Falls, NY, specializing in beef, pork, lamb, and goats.

🐄🐖🐑🐐 You raise it — we process it.
We provide mobile, on-farm slaughter, so we come directly to your farm to harvest your animal. From there, it comes back to our facility where it is custom cut to your specifications, vacuum packaged, frozen, and ready for your freezer.

And we do more than just cutting and wrapping! We also offer smoking, curing and specialty products, including sausage, hot dogs, kielbasa and more.

Don’t raise your own livestock? That doesn’t necessarily mean custom processing isn’t an option for you. We can help connect customers with locally raised beef or pork so you can fill your freezer with meat from a source you know and trust.

We are not a traditional retail meat market, so you won’t find individual steaks or packages of hamburger for sale in a meat case.

What we ARE is a local business helping farmers, families and livestock owners put locally raised, custom-processed meat in their freezers.

Your animal. Your cuts. Your freezer.
That’s what custom processing is all about.

Some days start before the sun comes up and don’t end until it goes back down. Owning a small business means long hours, early mornings, late nights, and a whole lot of hard work behind the scenes that most people never see.

But then you walk outside at the end of the day and see a view like this. ❤️ It’s a little reminder to slow down for a minute, look around, and appreciate the small things.

We’re tired, we work hard, and some days are definitely longer than others—but we’re incredibly thankful for our customers, our community, employees and everyone who continues to support Stratton’s Custom Meats. God Bless

Which would you choose?

The beef on the left is freshly ground from a local farm. The beef on the right is typical grocery store ground beef.

Many people assume bright red means fresher—but that’s not true. Grocery stores use preservatives and packaging that keeps meat looking bright red longer. Fresh local beef is often a darker, natural color.

Fresh isn’t about the color—it’s about how it’s raised, processed, and handled.

Just because a package says “Product of USA” or “American product” doesn’t necessarily mean the animal was born, raised, and processed in the United States; it just means it was packaged in the US.
