Hey everyone... who needs a mash tun and has $50?

I have this one left over from the shop. 17.5 gal cooler with bazooka screen and ball valve. Will easily handle a mash for a 5 gallon batch OR you could do a lighter ABV 10 gal via a batch sparge.

You can also get a Brew in a Bag setup for this style of cooler if you look around online.

Mash tun is at my house in western Cranston. Message me if you are interested.

Had a very nice brewday yesterday. Pearl, And at the end I poured myself a tall glass of my Pulp Life NEIPA.

Oats & Paradise game together nicely. My garage still smells like oats today as this recipe uses a total of 6 lbs - 2 # Malted Oats, 2 # Golden Naked Oats, 2 # Flaked. That is paired with 8 lbs of Thomas Fawcett Pearl malt which is "notoriously bready".

Doing the recirculating mashes has really let me dial in my system. This year has been fun because I have not been tinkering with my system... just running it.

Now I pretty much hit original kettle gravity on recipes and the clarity of the wort going into the kettle is amazing. One of the reasons I am glad I added the sight glass is that you can really see the difference as the mash progresses. Left pick is 10 mins into mash. 2nd is halfway through. Right image (although blurry) is how clear things are when I start my batch sparge after 75 mins.

Whirlpooling kettle side has also cleaned up my beers up a bunch. Again my kettle has a sight glass to keep an eye on everything. The only downside is that when I see the beer glowing in the sun, I want to drink it.

Decided to go Pearl, Oats & Paradise today. Cluster for bittering, Amarillo, Sabro and HS-1228 for a wide ranging tropical vibe. I'll be using a combination of pellet, cryo and whole leaf. This one will get whirlpool additions plus a DDH. Imperial Barbarian yeast for this one. Already a 1/3 of the way through my 75 min mash.

Due to weather and schedule I had to bail on brewing my Gin & Juice West Coast IPA last weekend. Instead I decided to sneak it in a night this week. Was hoping to use my outdoor setup, but went with the Robobrew for an indoor session last night.

There are a lot of things I have come to like about the Robobrew. Gin & Juice is an extract recipe. The one thing with my extract IPA's is that I like to use base malt rather than more DME to help me hit my desired OG. With this recipe that means I have a little over 4 #'s of grain. That would mean a least a few grain socks. Instead using the malt tube on the Robobrew and recirculating for 30 mins let's me extract what I need for sugars and then move onto the boil.

I have also found that the whirlpool attachment + wort chiller + a metal hop spider means I can lower my temp to 180 and then extract flavors from hops or spices without making a mess in the wort... and then chill down to pitching temps.

The brew evening went well, no major hassles. Ended up at 1.068 OG. Pitched the WLP067 Coastal Haze yeast at 75. Temp was at 70 this AM. The airlock is now bubbling and the temp is already on the rise. This is one of those yeasts I don't mind fermenting in the low 70's and then letting it slip down to room temp around 67.

Going to be double dry hopping this one with Mandarin Bavaria. First on day 4 of ferm, the 2nd 3 days before kegging. I'll also add more ginger, juniper and tangerine peal as needed towards the end.

And based on weather and schedule... looks like I will be running an all-grain batch tomorrow. My "Pearl, Oats &" rotating hop NEIPA is on deck. Still trying to figure out what version to make. "Pulp" was awesome. Really like "Pits". I still have not brewed the "Paradise" or "Pine" recipes I created. Stay tuned.

Not sure if everyone has heard through the grapevine, but I finally closed the brew shop in early April. Now that the dust has settled I have some items that I am going to be selling or donating to fellow homebrewers.

First up is the shop keezer. It's really good shape and everything works. This easily holds (4) 5 gal ball lock kegs. Honestly cannot remember if it fits 4 pin lock, but you will get at least 3 in there. Shelf on the right will hold a 5 # CO2 tank with regulator.

Faucet tower is Taprite and the taps are Krome Dispense. Lines are relatively new and always cleaned between kegs. Swivel nut connections on the lines so you can swap the ends with ease.

Comes with a homemade PID temp controller. Also including 10' of new liquid line + the kleen plugs for the taps & 2 ball lock connectors.

Asking $250. Message us on FB if you are interested.

Th eagle has risen!!! After many months of laying low and closing out things for the shop I am back to my old antics. Honestly it seems I've had to squeeze in brewing lately. This was my first Sunday morning brew in a long time. Can't tell you how much I've missed those. Pot of coffee and some tunes in the garage... that's good brewing.

Today I brewed Dream Lotus. This is a French Saison / Farmhouse Ale made with Belgian Pilsen, White Wheat and Vienna malts, along with Lotus hops and White Grape juice. This time around I am trying Omega Yeast's Gulo strain.

Full volume recirculating mash in my Ss tun with RIMS heating and pump. Pretty easy to dial in mash temps. Also whirlpooled in the 2oz of lotus at 170 degrees for 20 minutes. Wort chiller got my temp down quick as always and everything is comfortably resting in my 7 gal Ss Chronical at 70.5 degrees.

On this batch I missed my OG by a little which is okay. Beersmith calculated 4.6% abv, but now I will be closer to 4% which is what I was after anyways... more of a table or session saison for the hot weather.

I did a similar beer last fall with Nelson Savon hops and Whitelabs French Saison yeast that turned out amazing, but I thought could use "something more". Sucks it has taken me this long to get back to the recipe to tinker. Hopefully this version will be the one I stick with from here on out.

Cheers!

Hey everybody. This Sat would normally have been one of our brewing demonstrations, and typically kicks off the outdoor season for us.

I had been planning with the regular monthly attendees to get together for one last brew. With the weather cooperating I'd like to extend the invite to customers to come down to hang with us out back of the shop on Saturday from 12 noon - 4pm.

I've been getting a little sick and tired of the Dessert / Pastry Stouts that are everywhere and tend to be 10% abv. You know what you can't find at the breweries or liquor stores? A good ole American Stout! Nothing fancy... a little bitter, a little roasty, a little hoppy and 6.5% abv.

I've been working on a new recipe Darkest of Nights and we'll be brewing that extract w/ specialty grains on Sat.

Bring yourself, bring some snacks, bring some homebrew.

We'll see you there.
