Here is an update from the past few month here on MaC Farms.

Our #61 cow was thought to not be bred earlier this year. Well she seemed to get sick a few weeks back so Courtney and I got #61 up into the squeeze chute to get some antibiotics into her to help. A few days later she seemed to be looking and feeling better. Then about a week ago I got a message from Courtney saying "The cows are chasing turkeys in the pasture." But she also said the cows were acting weird. Come to find out, the cows were chasing vultures off our a stillborn calf of #61. We still have no idea why #61 got sick and lost her calf.

Then we had biblical rains come in the night of 29 July. As Courtney and I were getting ready for church our neighbor came and told us that we had a downed tree in our back pasture. He wasn't joking. A big oak tree, probably about 100-125' tall, came crashing down in the middle of the night. Right on our fence line. We'll, I have spent the last 3 days cutting, pushing, pulling and fixing the fence.

Yesterday I got a chance to finally spray our barn pasture for weeds. So, hopefully, we will be able to kill most of the weeds in that pasture. That way the cows can get over there and have great grass nutrition for there last trimester before calving this fall.

Well we had our first beef quarters for the year picked up Monday. Each quarter came out to about 125 lbs. 3 out of the 4 quarters were sold before the meat even hit our freezers. And the last quarter has been spoken for the day after we picked it up.

If anyone out there in Facebook land is looking for some Angus beef, we will be having another steer going in around October. Locally raised, grass fed, and grain finished.

It is officially calving season. Our registered Angus cow, #61, gave birth to a healthy heifer calf on Friday morning just before dawn. This calf will be my son's calf, and he is thinking of naming it MaC Farm's Winnie the Moo. Let us know what you think. If you have any suggestions for a name please leave a comment below.

Just so everyone knows, MaC Farms did not sustain any damage from last night's storms that rolled through western Kentucky. We were spared, but the same cannot be said for many of our surrounding communities and cities. We pray for those who have lost loved ones and the businesses that have been lost or damaged.

Well, here is an update for those of you paying attention. Over the last few months we have had a couple additions and a subtraction to our herd, and a subtraction from our flock. We added two new steers to the herd, one that I am calling #1 other and another that will be tagged #3. We also have registered our purebred angus heifer calf, that we are calling MaCKenzie. She is growing up very nice and next year will hopefully be a Dame to one of our 2023 calves. We also had a recent death/drowning of our rooster Roger. We are sad to see him go over the rainbow bridge. We also purchased a steer a few weeks ago that we hoped to raise as one of our beef steers. Sadly enough, he contracted shipping fever while being transported to the farm and succumbed to it a few days after arrival. Pictured are MaCKenzie, steers #1 other and #3, and our UofK Beef Quality and Care Assurance certification plaque. We have also added a calve feeder our equipment inventory. Thank you all for the continued support in this venture we call life. God bless y'all.

Again, if anyone has questions feel free to contact us.

Well, we figured it's time to update everyone on what's been happening around the farm. Yesterday was vaccination day for all the cattle. Well all but the #1 calf. He didn't want to be caught. Little bu**er. Everyone else got their shots and check-up's. The registered bull calf ( MaC) got his freeze brand and the calf out of #1008 got his number ( #2) as well. MaC and his brother from another mother ( ) are currently in the weaning process. The other calves are too young (or didn't want to).

We also had our fall calf hit the ground today. The calf is a healthy little heifer. She will continue the process of making us a fully purebred Angus beef farm.

Lastly, we have been receiving questions about possibly raising another steer for next year. At the moment we have 3 customers that want to buy in. However, 3 quarters does not make a full steer. Please, if you are on the fence, call, PM, or text us and we will explain how the whole process works.

We hope everyone is having a wonderful late summer. God bless.

We have had a customer or two asking if there are anymore slots open for next years beef quarters. At the moment the slots are all full. But if there are any of you out there in FB land that would like to come together to make a full cow order (4 quarters), please reach out to us via PM, commenting below, or text us. We may be able to hook you up.

08/19/2021

I am excited to say that next years beef slots are all filled. If you are still on the fence about wanting in on this opportunity, please do not hesitate to contact us. We will do our best to work with you to bring you the best selections of beef we can. Thank you and God Bless.
