The goldenrod kicked into gear this past week. The fall nectar flow is critical for bee winter survival here in the Northeast. If it’s abundant, we’ll be able harvest more honey in early October. Fall honey in these parts is dark and sweet.

Honeybees beat the heat by bringing water back to the hive then fanning it for evaporative cooling. They love that dirty water, btw. It’s full of minerals they need. So, if your birdbath is a little funky, they’ll appreciate your thoughtfulness!
