We are still sugaring in the ‘Ville! Thanks to continued freezing nights, our trees are still going. Boil 18 is now in the books and we have a real shot at breaking some all-time records in the next week.

Between snow storms we were able to get a decent collection and our first boil of the season in. We’re off to a good start!

Bee check: all is well! It’s tempting to celebrate surviving a really tough winter, but the Starving Time is still ahead. This was the sugar I gave them in early January. So much still there is a really good sign. The pollen is gone, also a good sign. I stocked them back up with both and I’ll hope they can get through the next 4-6 weeks.

Go Time.

This little thaw was the perfect opportunity to take a quick peek in on the girls and offer some supplemental sugar and their own pollen harvested this past summer. The pollen will help spur the queen to begin laying this month. It’s a wonderful feeling seeing all the hives alive and very well in January!

We will be at the Ashland Farmers Market this Saturday from 10a-1p. We’ll have all of our maple goodies for your holiday.
Unfortunately, the honey will be staying home for this market. The market wants to have one honey vendor for this event. You can still get our honey via the porch pick up or at our HCA market in December.
