The goldenrod kicked into gear this past week. The fall nectar flow is critical for bee winter survival here in the Northeast. If it’s abundant, we’ll be able harvest more honey in early October. Fall honey in these parts is dark and sweet.

Last week’s high temps and clear skies were ideal for processing beeswax in our solar wax melter. After a day in the sun, we have beautiful filtered wax we use for our lip balm and blocks for your own projects. You can check them out at Sunday’s Hopkinton Farmers Market.

We typically only bottle our Dark pure maple syrup in glass, but this Golden is just so beautiful, it had to be shown off. We’ll have these special new bottles at the Hopkinton Farmers Market this coming Sunday from 11-3 pm.

Honeybees beat the heat by bringing water back to the hive then fanning it for evaporative cooling. They love that dirty water, btw. It’s full of minerals they need. So, if your birdbath is a little funky, they’ll appreciate your thoughtfulness!
