Maxim is not playing nice with pigs any more. Done with psychological training, belly rubs and treats. From now on, it’s high tension fences on 3” SS-20 posts, steel electrical wire with 10,000V in it and cattle prods.

The ten runaway pigs are inside the chicken enclosure on the section that was supposed to rest this year, pending additional fence installation.

One of the runaways ended up with 270 degree rusty mattress spring in its snout. Little surgery and she is eating.

Well, the pigs escaped … again. Didn’t recognize me walking around the woods and bolted through the fence. Waiting for them to come back for food, like last time.

I am getting tired of this. Never again I get a sow. Two years I had cut males and it was peachy. These cannot recognize me after being fed twice a day for 2 months.

Neighbors, stand fast. They are harmless.

P**p happens, especially on the farm. You know those stories about turkeys not being the sharpest tool in the shed. Well, it’s all true and then some.

We put day old chicks in the same brooder for a couple of days with 4 week old turkeys (separated by a wall). Two chicks snuck into the turkey part and, despite weight disparity of 100:1, scared them. Turkeys went into a mosh pit mode…7 dead within 2 hours when I returned to check on them. Chicks are fine. 🤦‍♂️

Would there be interest in Bresse whole chicken? We are talking 3-star Michelin restaurant product: marbled meat, exquisite taste. Expensive ($20/lb online right now) due to very high chick prices, milk diet and extra labor.

Organic feed, epinette finished on milk, air chilled, local.

Our own potatoes with our own smoked pancetta. We still have one pig up for grabs. Should be around 200lbs in December. Talk to a friend, dividing in half is easy and you choose how to cut it.

Folks, we have vegetables (with a caveat, read below).

Zucchini are at the farm stand, we don’t pick them regularly. They stay fresher on the vine. Once those at the stall are gone, we put more out. If you need more or different size - ring the bell, we will pluck them for you. Priced per each.

Carrots will stay in the ground until needed. Ring the bell. $3/lb without the green part.

Potatoes will stay in the ground until needed. Ring the bell. $3/lb BUT we have been hit with wireworm pretty hard (see photo). The ones that are damaged will go a lot cheaper at $1/lb because of trimming needed. They are still great, but ugly. We do rotate fields, use organic methods, but would rather suffer greater losses than spray chemicals.

Peppers (green, sweet) will stay on the plant until needed. $5/lb, despite our resident groundhog who is an elusive bastard, some are still untouched and delicious.

Garlic will be out in a few days at the stall. Little smaller than last year. Price will reflect that.

If you need few leaves of sage, basil, mint or dill for your recipe. We’ll supplement whatever you purchase free of charge. Ring the bell!
