Today is Gary’s birthday.

He doesn’t like the attention. He doesn’t want to share his new age. He doesn’t want any gifts.

But we know him. He appreciates the little things. He likes a table with fresh cut basil, watermelon and heirloom tomatoes all from our organic garden. A basket of fresh baked bread from the local bakery paired with olive oil from the trees he planted and the harvest he led. There will be a chilled bottle of Grenache from the land he farms and the winemaking he manages. There will also be dark chocolate that he will not need to share.

He may not want attention, but he deserves to be celebrated because he helps us all grow to be better, stronger and wildly abundant with nature’s beauty.

We are certain today the birds and bees sing his praise for the bounty of flowers and trees he has planted.

We sing his praise too.

May this sunrise be colorful. May this year bring you joy, peace, ease and sweet and savory fruit from all you have planted.

May you enjoy every moment of this day and year ahead. We love you.

Another day at the farm.

The last 48 hours were filled with unexpected conversations, quick decisions and ash falling from the sky.

Another fire, another emergency, another day.

As we scrambled to gather our team, our guests, our family, our animals, and ourselves, life stopped as the fire spread.

We took stock of what is most important and tried to fill our bags and cars. We considered plans for our animals. (Auggie, pictured here, our Pyranees-lab is the size and energy of a small pony might need his own trailer.)

The texts from loved ones mixed with Sheriff notifications became our heart beat - open, close, open, close, open, close.

Remain calm. Listen to the experts. Be prepared. Keep perspective. Care for your neighbors. Go gently.

Life’s lessons real time.

We have learned a lot in the last 48 hours and remain deeply grateful and humbled by Mother Nature and Human Nature. We were reminded of how much we love being stewards of Campovida and all its creatures (except maybe mosquitoes and feral pigs to be honest.)

Thank you for reaching out with love and care. You kept our hearts open. ♥️
