Welcome to Hobo Holler Farm Stand! 🌽🥚🍅

Can’t make it out just yet? Come take a little virtual walk through the stand with me. We hope you’ll come see us in person soon!

Hobo Holler is a self-serve farm stand stocked with surplus from our own farm—fresh eggs, veggies and other farm goodies—as well as handmade items from our friends and neighbors.

Right now, we’ve got 🌽 corn, 🍅 tomatoes, 🥒 cucumbers and 🥚 fresh eggs on the stand!

Need something you don’t see? Ask us! We may be able to help with compost, rabbit fertilizer, sawmill products and other farm products. Don’t be afraid to reach out.

And local makers and gardeners—this invitation is for you, too! Got a handmade item you’d like to sell? A garden producing more than your family can eat? We’d love to talk. We currently charge just a 5% commission on items stocked by our friends and neighbors.

On days like today I think I could live off the land if I had to.

We have a dozen eggs, a lb of tomatoes, a lb of cucumbers and triple sweet corn on the stand! Come get you some!

Our little birdie cannot be convinced to move.

Yesterday afternoon I very politely relocated her half-built nest out of the farm stand. Today I watched from my window as she patiently rebuilt it...right back where she'd started.

She's apparently determined to raise her babies at Hobo Holler. She even used corn husks and silk to line her nest. 🌽🐦

At this point, I guess she's staying. We'll just have to be good neighbors.

Meanwhile, we still have 52 ears of Triple Sweet Corn looking for good homes!

Kenny and I cut ours off the cob and fried it in a skillet last night. It was so good we're having it again tonight.

While you're here, take a look around! We've also got soaps, jams, jellies, teacup bird feeders (yes, I put sunflower seeds in one for our tiny new resident), potholders, bags, dishtowels, and more.

Come see us before the corn is gone...and don't forget to peek in on our newest tenant.

🌽 Triple Sweet Corn is here! 🌽

Fresh from the farm and on the stand today!

Just look at those luscious kernels! If you've been waiting for fresh sweet corn, now's the time to come and get it.

Kenny and I are shucking ours tonight and plan to can a big batch later this week...though I have a feeling we're going to end up eating some with supper every night until it's gone. 😄

We've got 63 ears available right now, $1/ear. Better hurry! Fresh-picked corn doesn't usually stick around for long.

Please excuse the pine straw and leaves inside the stand. A stubborn little bird has decided it's the perfect place to build a nest, and so far I haven't found a way to convince her to relocate. I figure she's convinced she belongs there as much as the rest of us. 🐦

I'm delighted to report that my would-be assassin—a stomach bug—has failed.

I'm alive, well, and back to stocking the stand, though it was touch-and-go around 4 a.m. Friday morning. I was ready to meet my Maker, but my Maker, apparently, has other plans.

This morning I've added:
🥒 3 lbs. cucumbers
🍅 1 lb. tomatoes (mostly very ripe, with a few green)
🫑 ½ lb. bell peppers

The vegetables are in the cooler, pre-bagged and marked by weight.
Price: $3/lb.

One cucumber bag weighs 2 lbs. because I ran out of baskets. If you only want a pound, feel free to split the bag...or maybe your mama, your sister, or a neighbor will appreciate the other pound.

While you're there, don't forget to sign the guest book! Reading your notes has become one of my favorite parts of running the stand. Some of them have made me laugh, some have made me cry, and every one of them reminds me why I keep doing this.

If you stop by today, would you also say a prayer for Ashley? She left a note saying she's having a hard time. I don't know her story, but God does.

Finally, a huge thank you to Carla Manes Rivers for the ongoing signage and to Matt Brown (Nina) for the landscaping and all the heavy lifting. Without those two, this little farm stand would look pretty rough. Thanks to them, it's becoming exactly what I hoped it would be—a welcoming little place by the side of the road.

We're continuing to spruce things up at the Farm Stand. Carla Manes Rivers has generously donated her time and expertise to paint signage on all sides. I think it's gonna look great...in barn red! Stay-tuned for more pics!

Rain and mischeivous cows are on my mind, Facebook.

Our squash has drowned and the new plants are by the window, forlorn and waiting paitiently to be put in the ground.

The cucumbers did not drown, but they're struggling. The tomatoes, well, they're so far away we haven't been able to get to them.

And Coco got in the pea garden.

Rainy weeks have their plusses though: I DID get a lot of writing, organizing and publishing work done.

Did you know Mary Stuart Masterson did the bee stunts herself in Fried Green Tomatoes?

The stunt double was a no-show, so Masterson ended up filming the scene with real bees.

I'm no bee whisperer, but I have been setting bee traps around the neighborhood and picking green tomatoes.

Fried green tomatoes with cowboy cookies for dessert.

That's a supper for any self-respecting Southern girl.

We've been working on the Farm Stand's curb appeal this week.

At the suggestion of Sherry Dorris Laurence, we've added steps to make it easier to get in and out of the stand.

Jean Sharp suggested turning the beat-up red wheelbarrow I accidentally ran over into a flower bed feature, so we're giving that old wheelbarrow a second chance at usefulness. Still got some work to do, but it's coming along.

We'll also be adding a few new signs with help from Carla Manes Rivers.

The work is still in progress, and we're looking for little ways to make the stand more welcoming. If you've visited recently, what's one thing you'd add? We'd love to hear your ideas.

P.S. The tomatoes are starting to come in! We expect some vine-ripened red ones in a few days, but in the meantime, who else loves fried green tomatoes? We sold out promptly today, but more will be available tomorrow morning.
