Last call for the bulk chicken sale!

Today (November 30th) is the last day to get our lowest prices of the year on bulk chicken.

All bulk order sizes are discounted, and we’ve added two extra tiers (5+ chickens and 10+ chickens), so our customers with less freezer space can get in on the deals.

We’ve also got free bonus items for our email subscribers, with the number of bonus items increasing at each tier.

We’d love for all our bulk customers to get our best pricing, so if you’ve been thinking about ordering, remember to email or message me no later than tonight.  And if you want access to the email subscriber deals, let me know your preferred email, and I’ll put you on the list.

Pricing info (minus bonus items) is below.  Let me know if you have any questions.

5+ chickens: $6.20/lb  (Available now through Nov. 30)
10+ chickens: $5.80/lb  (Available now through Nov. 30)
15+ chickens: $5.40/lb  (normally $5.85/lb)
25+ chickens: $4.90/lb  (normally $5.50/lb)

It’s almost that time of year again! Info on our bulk chicken prices and our summer chicken CSA is coming in a few days.

One important thing first:

I am very happy to announce that all our chicken feed will be non-GMO from this year forward. The backbone of our chickens’ diet is and always will be fresh pasture, but using non-GMO grain has always been part of my vision for our farm, and I’m really excited to be able to make it happen.

To be honest, I was nervous to make the financial commitment to more expensive feed before the farm was able to fund itself (feed makes up about ⅓ of our operating costs), so thank you for your support in getting this farm up and running.

Speaking of costs, we are increasing our farmers market prices by an average of $0.50/lb to cover this much anticipated improvement.

HOWEVER. All our bulk and CSA prices will stay exactly the same as last year.

We love our bulk customers, and we are looking forward to giving you an even better deal on some really great meat. I’ll be sending out final details within the week.

In the meantime, if you’ve ordered from us before and loved our chicken, would you tell a friend? As cool as it is to be able to share our day-to-day operations on social media, we do most of our business through word of mouth, so your recommendations make a difference. Thank you!

OH BY THE WAY…

Have I mentioned we sell soap?

First photo is our spring seasonal collection - available at farmers markets this spring until we sell out. Second picture is our standard line, which we carry all year. You may have also seen these soaps at local stores! We sell at Butchers Son in Corning and Montour Market (they also carry our chicken).

I've been playing with soap formulations for almost a decade. I started out because gardening absolutely killed my hands, and found that I really enjoy the combination of chemistry and artistry that goes into soap making.

All our soaps are formulated for dry skin. They clean thoroughly and gently, and are great “all over” bars (there's a free extra gentle ones I recommend as face soap).

I use lard and tallow from local, pasture-based farms in all my soaps, both to reduce our reliance on internationally-produced seed oils, and because I like supporting great local farms. Oh, and it makes really good soap.

All our soaps are colored with mineral pigments, and scented with a combination of essential oils and high quality fragrance oils. If you have a preference for specific ingredients, just ask and I can probably help you out.

CHICKEN NEWS - Local Partners (part 2)

We are selling on Delivered Fresh!  I’m so stoked about this one.  For those who don’t know, Delivered Fresh is like an online farmers market for Southern Tier NY / Northern PA.  They work with over 50 local farmers, selling just about every farm product you could think of.  Order online and they deliver to your door.

I’ve been a customer of Delivered Fresh for years, and am such a fan of everything about David and Marla’s business model.  I’m so thrilled to be working with them.

Farmers Markets - We’re at the Chamberlain Acres market every Sunday from 11-3 (it runs year-round), and we recently added the Trumansburg winter market into our rotation.  The summer market season is coming up, so we’re finalizing our summer schedule.  I’ll let you know the details soon.

CHICKEN NEWS - Local Partners (part 1)

You may have seen our chickens in some local restaurants! We’ve partnered with Rye Bar and Restaurant in Elmira for a few special events focused on local food. The chef has been amazing to work with and is really passionate about working with local farmers, and the kitchen always smells delicious. If you’re looking for a date night in the area, go check them out!

Our chicken is also sold at Montour Market - a store and cafe focused on local farmers and artisans (not to be confused with Montour *Farmers* Market - this is a brick and mortar store). They have a nice selection of farm fresh groceries, a coffee shop, and some insanely good looking scones. I think I remember seeing a pear ginger, a bacon cheddar, and a fig + something... I need to go with an appetite next time.

I’m not sure how much I’m allowed to say about this last one, but there is a new prepared food business in the area focused on ready-to-eat meals made with locally raised ingredients. Think freezer meals, but with real food, and designed by a chef. It’s in the final stages of startup, and they’re using meat and bone broth from our chickens. I’m super excited about this one, and I’ll let you know more details as soon as I can!

Happy spring everyone!

I’ve been quiet on here for a while. Honestly, social media kicked my butt. But we had a good rest this winter, and we’re gearing up for a new season of raising chickens on pasture.

Here’s a few pics of what we’re looking forward to this summer. Chicks are coming in just under a week, so stay tuned!
