There will always be different opinions when you bring something new to a community, and I knew from the beginning that not everyone would understand what we are trying to create at P4:13 W**e & Spirits Lounge.
Today, an older gentleman and Vietnam veteran came in rather on the defensive side and asked why we would open a place like this in Hortonville instead of Appleton or the Fox Valley? He said our lounge was too "hoity-toity" for a small town and asked, "Don't you want business?"
I smiled and answered with grace. That we've only been open for two months and asked him to give us a chance before deciding what we're about.
Then I shared the reason P4:13 exists. My hope, after our conversation. He thinks differently of our place. โฅ๏ธ
Sometimes people need Grace, where Grace needs to be given.
This lounge was never created to be a loud, rambunctious bar. It was created out of one of the darkest seasons of our lives. After losing our 18-year-old son, Dayton, two and a half years ago, our faith in God became our foundation. Through unimaginable grief, God gave us a vision for a place where people could slow down, gather, connect, and simply be together. Tomorrow is never promised. We unfortunately had to learn that first hand.
P4:13 W**e & Spirits Lounge is not about being fancy or exclusive. It's not about being "ritzy." It's about creating an atmosphere where people feel welcomed, respected, and at peace.
Whether you're stopping in after work, celebrating a special occasion, meeting for a Bible study, having a business meeting, catching up with old friends, or simply looking for a quiet place to unwind, our doors are open to you.
This is truly a come-as-you-are place.
Some people will love what we've created, and some may decide it's not for themโand that's okay. We respect everyone's preferences.
But I hope people know this: P4:13 was built on faith, family, friendship, perseverance, and community. It was born from heartbreak, sustained by God's grace, and created with the hope that everyone who walks through our doors feels they belong.
No matter who you are, where you've been, or what you're wearing, you are welcome here.
