Cuff Farms is family owned and operated by the Cuff Family in Hortonville, Wisconsin, selling asparagus, strawberries, pumpkins, pasture-raised pork and poultry, homemade goods, and tons of family fun. (Sandy) Cuff, his wife Lois, and their daughter Maggie. The farm covers 249 acres but only 200 acres of this land is tillable. Besides growing a rotation of winter wheat, rye, oats, and soy beans,

we also grow 1 acre of asparagus, 35 acres of strawberries, and 15 acres of pumpkins and fall items every year in a field rotation. Strawberries have been part of this farm's history since the early 1960's. Sandy's brother Jim and his father, George Sr., began by building an acre pond fed by a natural spring and a well. Back then they planted a few acres of strawberries by hand, and each year the business has steadily grown larger to where it is today. Strawberries seem to like the sandy soil here on Ledgehill Road. The sand in the soil helps maintain good water drainage. Strawberries will not tolerate "wet feet". They require full sunlight and plenty of water to do their best. Our farm has plenty! The pumpkin fields are planted in spring and cultivated along with the strawberries until they are ready to be harvested during the month of October. Over 5000 school children will visit the fields in October on their pumpkin pickin' field trips! Have you noticed our bee hives? To assure a high level of pollination for our strawberry plant blossoms and our pumpkin plant blossoms, we have 80 bee hives placed on our land during the growing season. The honey that comes from these bee hives is processed at Knox farms and sold in the shed during pumpkin season! We also sell jams, preserves, and maple syrup all grown and harvested locally.

With our small acreage, we're best suited for a pick-your-own experience rather than large-volume picking. The demand has been incredible, and we'll do our best to serve everyone who arrives early.

Why not just grow more strawberries?

Well, we've committed to not spraying our berries. That's part of what makes them special, and it's also part of why so many families choose to pick here. But it also means there's a limit to how many acres we can realistically care for.

Keeping strawberries healthy without spraying takes a tremendous amount of hand weeding throughout the year. For many years, a faithful family helped us maintain our fields, allowing us to grow more than 15 acres of strawberries. After they retired, we had to adjust to what our current crew could realistically manage.

Today, we have an amazing team—mostly hardworking high school students—and together we can properly care for about six acres.

Thank you for your patience and support. We know our limited picking windows can be frustrating, but we're grateful for everyone who chooses to support our family's farm.

We have picked through all our rows. We will do our best to serve anyone who is on their way or almost here, but our main field has been picked through. We will update on our plan for the week once we get a chance to assess the fields after today's pick. Thank you for your support and understanding! We are a small farm with limited acres and have a HUGE demand, which we appreciate. There are lots of green berries to come yet!

We opened, and you came! We usually like to give a good heads up when we close because we are picked out, but we were quickly overwhelmed this morning and had to close at a moment's notice. We apologize to anyone who was inconvenienced.

We picked every ripe berry, and we will be closed on Saturday. We are going to go look over our fields on Saturday afternoon and make a decision if we will be open on Sunday or Monday.

We are a small farm and have limited acres, and the demand is HUGE early in the season. It is just beginning, and we will have more picking days.

Saturday, our farm store will be open 9-4. We will have some limited pre-picked berries, no reservations, first come first serve. $9/quart. At 10:30, we will have a wagon ride farm tour to visit the pigs and sheep. $5/person that can be used as farm store credit.
Fresh cinnamon rolls, pastured meats, strawberry jam, Wisconsin farm-made goods, and more!

BERRY UPDATE: No start date yet, but soon! Our days and hours open will vary. We will be taking it one day at a time. We will only have morning picking hours like in the past years. We have a small acreage to pick and become easily picked out, and the berries will need time to ripen between picks. Our crop is more suited for a pick-your-own experience vs. large volume picking.
