Couldn’t dream of putting on a festival without help. Lightning Bug 2026 made possible by these generous folks who kept our artists and volunteers fed, printed our signage, helped us advertise, and generally made the whole thing possible. Get in touch if you’d like to be a sponsor for a future event at RB.

We’d love for you to join us for these very special events.

I’m so excited to finally share the stop-motion animation our brilliant friends Lydia & David Wynn of Lyminalkin created at this year’s Lightning Bug Festival.

Lydia is a dear friend and one of my favorite artists. I’ve loved stop-motion animation for as long as I can remember, and it’s been such a gift to watch this project evolve from its earliest sketches into something so extraordinary. Also, our dear friend Annie (herbal medicine at our festival) wrote and sang the song for the video.

Thousands of hours have gone into this work: sketching and storyboarding, sculpting and hand-painting hundreds of expressive clay faces, building each puppet’s armature by hand, gathering wool from their llama herd to felt the bodies, and creating every tiny detail frame by frame. Even the luminous lightning bug made especially for the festival carried that same care and imagination.

If you saw me crying on Saturday. It wasn’t sadness—it was awe. Awe at Lydia and David’s vision, their devotion to craft, and the beautiful world they’ve patiently brought into being.

These short films are part of an ever-growing collection of memories being gathered for Tove, the main character in the larger Lyminalkin story—a place-based, community-built world that unfolds one handcrafted moment at a time.

Lyminalkin is the stop-motion animation practice of Lydia and David Wynn. Rooted in animism, land art, slow media, and folk traditions, their films are created frame by frame with handcrafted puppets, found natural objects, and field recordings made in wilderness settings. Their stories invite us into a world of living wisdom, ecological awareness, and deep interconnection, where process, place, and story are woven together into something slow, handmade, and deeply alive.

I’m so grateful that the world of Lyminalkin found a home at Lightning Bug Festival this year. I hope you’ll take a few minutes to watch—you’ll understand why I was moved to tears.
