It was an extremely stressful kidding season and I only had two pregnant does 😭😫

Hannah had adorable buck/doe twins and everyone seemed healthy and happy…. But I was very wrong! The next morning I did a quick check before work and everyone still seemed okay but after I got home I realized something was really wrong. The little buckling had no a**s/rectum. I immediately rushed him to the vet but euthanasia was the best option 💔. And then I was super paranoid something was wrong with Hannah. She seemed “off” so I was worried she retained her placenta since I never found it but wasn’t sure if she ate it or not. I took her temp and it was low so from what I’ve searched she had a lot of symptoms of hypocalcemia. I started giving her little bits of oral calcium and it actually seemed to help a ton! We got her to the vet and she had retained some of her placenta. She was treated and sent home to hopefully push out the rest. But I had stopped with the calcium since I figured that was no longer the problem… well Easter she was basically dying so I just started pumping her full of oral calcium and within hours she was almost normal again! We got her to the vet Monday for the third time and they flushed her again and gave her some more antibiotics. They checked her levels and everything was okay but they do think the calcium was helping. It was just hard to know if her calcium was low before I gave her a ton throughout the day/night. She is fine now just thin since she was not eating from being sick. I’m so relieved we haven’t lost her.. she is such a sweet girl and an amazing momma ❤️

Im also grateful Ivy had a relatively easy kidding! She technically had quads but the last one had passed early in the pregnancy. Possibly mummified but it was dark outside where she was having the babies. The last living baby born was breach with legs tucked but she was able to pass him fine! But then the next night it was stormy and insanely windy so I called my sister to pop outside to check them around 11:40pm (I don’t live on the same property as the goats) and she couldn’t find Ivys little doeling 😫.. we rushed over but she ended up finding her outside the pen. She found a hole in the chainlink fence and escaped!! THANKFULLY I had woken up and had a gut feeling that they needed checked on otherwise that little doe would have died that night. I’m also thankful for my family being able/willing to check on my goats when I’m not there.

For now everything is okay and everyone seems fine! And I hope it continues that way.

Ivy had her babies! She has two bucks and a little doe 🥹💙🩷💙 All are gold or chocolate gold! And all are blue eyed and moonspotted!! I believe the doe and one buck are polled but I’ll be able to confirm in a couple days.
One of her bucks looks like his grandma who unfortunately passed last year. She was one of my all time favorite goats and was the very first goat to be registered with my herd name.

Both bucks will be available at weaning or I could possibly let one go as a bottle baby.

She technically had quads but one had passed early in the pregnancy. It was super undeveloped and maybe a little mummified. She had her babies in the dark so it was hard to tell with just flashlights.

Unfortunately we had to put this sweet baby boy to sleep today 😭 I didn’t realize he was born without an a**s so he couldn’t p**p. I checked on them right when I got off work today and could tell something was wrong. He was acting like a normal baby but his belly was bloated. I figured out the problem quickly and I immediately got him to the vet. It was decided that euthanasia was the best option for him 💔💔 I am so upset and devastated! I’m mad at myself for not noticing sooner… I have never experienced this before so didn’t even think to check

So far the little doeling seems to be normal with no noticeable problems but I’m keeping an eye on both her and Hannah.. I’m so paranoid that something else could be wrong

Look what Hannah did! 🥹❤️

Flower Lion Farm LS Lemon Tart x Bridgeport Farms BFR Hannah

Buck/doe twins born today!! Everyone seems to be healthy and are doing great. Both have blue eyes and I think they are polled. There is a good chance I will retain both of these babies 😊

I bought Hannah last year and she has been the goofiest and sweetest girl! She has great conformation and probably the best udder in my herd.

I assume by now everyone has heard of the controversy out of Pennsylvania- where a man decided to do a live, at home, c-section on his living goat and live-stream it for the internet to watch. Afterwards he loaded her up and took her to the vet, in an unimaginable amount of pain and shock- intestines dragging- to see if the vet could save her. The vet couldn’t, and reported him for animal cruelty and he is facing charges.

As he 100% should be. Obviously he could get ahold of, and afford, a vet. Who could have done a proper, humane c-section and possibly saved all involved. But in the world that he absolutely couldn’t get a vet- a terminal c-section begins with euthanasia. The doe is dying, a vet cannot be found, you euthanize and immediately cut to get to the baby. It’s awful and heartbreaking, but yes they do happen. What he did was NOT a terminal c-section. With the option of an available vet, he CHOSE to gut and torture a living animal on video for views, and comments, and MONEY. Hate views are still views- and rage baiting the internet rolls out the money like nothing else because people interact with it like crazy. He made money with commas off that video. Plus all the attention driven to his website, social media, etc from all this.

I hope he loses every dime and then some, and they put him in jail. The last thing in the world we need is a bunch of people deciding animal abuse is a great way to produce content and make some money. There is already a LOT of that on the internet (I have a sad thing to tell you about all those “man saves drowning puppy” videos- how do you think that puppy got to be drowning in front of a camera?) We need to loudly condemn this kinda of abuse, and DON’T GO LOOK AT IT! Don’t give him a single view, you are rewarding a disgusting horrific act with money. And you are encouraging others to do the same kind of thing, and you're telling the algorithm that more animals abuse should be shown.

This kind of horror reflects badly on all farmers. It is the kind of thing that gets new restrictive laws passed. It’s the kind of thing that give PETA a cause to champion. Farmers need to unify and condemn this kind of thing just as loudly as PETA will. I have been so happy to see so many large farms or educational groups like Ringside condemning it. But it’s twice as heartbreaking to see regular people defending it.

“Well, what did farmers do before vets?”

In the 1800’s one of the most notable and respected surgeons of the time could remove a leg, start to finish, in under 30 seconds without anesthesia (as it didn’t exist yet). He famously also removed a leg with an oops testicle, and had a 300% mortality rate on one of his surgeries (his patient died, his cut his assistants fingers off and he died of gangrene, and a bystander fainted and died of shock after he cut his coat). He was a famous and well respected surgeon people traveled to see and learn from. Today he’d be in jail for life for the same act. What would have been done 200 years ago isn’t always relevant to today.

Terminal c-sections BEGIN with the euthanasia of the doe. Even 200 years ago, when in all likelihood that doe just became dinner, she was still not brutalized and left to suffer. And despite popular belief that farmers do everything themselves- you will rarely meet anyone who knows their vet (and often multiple vets) as well as a farmer. Farmers make their living, and invest their life, and significant percentage of their net worth into their livestock. A working relationship with a vet protects that investment. Farmers work to maintain those vet relationships because they're key to your success. And in those horrible very worst case senarios- again terminal c-sections begin with the euthanasia of the doe.

But doing it right doesn’t take you viral, or get you internet fame and money. He’s not a farmer, he’s a social media influencer who placed shock value and views FAR above his does life. He inflicted horrific pain and suffering, shock, and a slow death... for views.

I don’t like to talk about awful things, but I think this is incredibly important to educate people that this is NOT what farmers do. This is NOT what farmers believe in. This is NOT how farmers live or treat their animals.

I also refuse to show his pictures, page, or news story. So a cute goat instead.

Guess who is pregnant!! I honestly could not tell if she was but she FINALLY developed a little udder bump 😁 Her and Ivy are both due on the 30th of this month. I’m going to guess she has one maybe two. Fingers crossed for a doe that I can retain!! The sire is Flower Lion Farm LS Lemon Drop who is a solid gold with blue eyes and is polled!
