Well, it is cold now! We had to close the doors on the farmstand last night, our heaters cannot keep up with below zero! If you need any spuds, please reach out, maybe if next weekend is warmer, we will try to open for the weekend. Please don’t forget to keep potatoes on your menu – they have more potassium than bananas!

We are still open! We spent some time in the Haynesville woods Thanksgiving Day and gathered some greenery to change out our farmstand flower pots for the holiday season. Tomorrow is small business Saturday – come see us for all of your potato needs!

We are still open! The doors are closed at night to run some heat and put insulation around the door, but we are open from about 6:30 am to 6:30 pm daily. We have a great supply of Caribou Russet and Russet Burbank potatoes in all bag sizes! We also have smaller bags of reds, yellows, round whites and Pinto Gold. We baked chicken with some Pinto Gold, it was delicious! We highly recommend all potatoes, but Pinto Gold is a must try! A University of Maine variety that should not be judged by appearance. They are smaller and odd in shape, but their yellow flesh and red skin with splashes of yellow is very tasty!

For Caribou Russet lovers, we bagged up more today, there are 5, 10 and 20 lb. bags in the farmstand. It is getting colder, it feels more like twice baked potato season. We have lots of Russet-type potatoes for this family favorite recipe. We often bake several on Sunday and take them for lunches throughout the week – potatoes are so versatile!

We still have plenty of 50 lb. bags of Russets and 20 lb. bags of other varieties. The week ahead looks wet, so if you stop to get a 50 lb. bag and the pallets with 50 lb. bags are not outside, please call (207) 551-5031 and we are not more than 5 minutes away and could meet you with 50 lb. bags! Our last crop of the season is in the farmstand - we have buttercup and bon bon squash. It is winter squash with sweet, creamy orange flesh. We really like it baked with maple syrup in the middle. Vine ripened tomatoes are winding down, but there are still apples. For potatoes we have Russet Burbank, Caribou Russet, Keuka Gold, Dark Red Norland, Superior and Pinto Gold! Pinto Gold fans know that the variety grows small tubers and odd shapes. We were shocked to dig this 1.4 lb. Pinto Gold last week.

If you are interested in 50 lb. and 20 lb. bags stock up now! The boys (with some adult help too) have been hand selecting baker size Caribou Russet and Russet Burbank. We still have small bags of yellows, reds, Pinto Gold, blues, Superior, Katahdin, Kennebec, Caribou Russet and Russet Burbank. We are so very thankful for the beautiful harvest weather and the wonderful crew that comes every day and work long hours and keeps it fun!

For the past two years, we have planted a bee pollinator mix with our potatoes. Last week when we were checking the nearby squash, bees were hard at work. We partner with a bee keeper in central Maine that bring their bee hives to the edges of our fields during the summer after they winter in Georgia and stop in Maine blueberry country to pollinate there.

Piersen has been busy hand picking and polishing apples. He may have some farmer in him and instead of overplanting he over picked, so these apples are priced to sell – 6 apples for $1.
