This is a family of barn swallows. The young have just left the nest and are enjoying giving me a flyby. These amazing birds travel 14,000 miles every year and return TO THE SAME NEST to raise their babies. Think about this - If your housing subdivision has the word "farm" in its name, it may have replaced old family barns where generations of swallows nested! Take the time to make or buy swallow ledges to add to your eaves to encourage them back home! These little birds eat their weight in bugs daily and they love flies and mosquitoes best. Its a win win.

At the farm, WE HAVE NO NEED FOR BUG SPRAY! At our new place closer to town, we get eaten alive by both biting flies and mosquitoes. Why?

Because habitat loss is real, and people misunderstand what that means. At the farm, we have intricate ecosystems, and strive to maintain them. Our wetland has frogs, toads, dragonflies, snakes, and other bug predators, and our grasslands are maintained so birds can nest and have their young. Our entire neighborhood benefits from what we do here!

Bats, flying birds, grass nesting birds, dragonflies, spiders, snakes, frogs, fish, toads & wasps all eat bugs, so encourage these beneficial critters by building nest sites, planting plants and grasses you can allow to grow tall, and by not killing predatory insects unless they pose a danger.

Remember, standing water as in puddles, clogged gutters, water left in buckets and other yard containers, as well as the many drainage ponds added to apartments and subdivisions breed flies and mosquitoes. Also rotting garbage, manure, and compost are breeding grounds. So help by keeping your trash contained, unclogging gutters and emptying water out of containers, especially after a rain. If you compost, turn it often, and if you are a small scale composter, consider a closed system. Put up bat boxes and birdhouses.

Nurture habitats, so nature can nurture you back!!

Life has been a bit chaotic!

The farm is now listed for sale. Greg has been living at the new place (between Dublin and Plain City) with the dogs and 1/2 the chickens, and I am taking care of the farm, keeping it ready for show as well as emptying things out and cleaning pens. Putting lots of miles on our vehicles and feeling a little displaced, but change is healthy and good 💛💛💛 (I have to keep telling myself).

It's real guys.

I try so hard every day not to be too sad about this. As this door closes many more open. Change keeps us fully present and alive, and we must embrace it.

Here is the listing. If you know someone who wants to do what we are doing, please spread the word!

This 2646 square feet Single Family home has 3 bedrooms and 1 bathroom. It is located at 9336 Madison Rd NE, Washington Court House, OH.

Yesterday I completed my 61st trip around the sun. SO CHEERS TO 62!

Like my Mom, I believe in living timelessly and the misconceptions of aging hinder us from living fully in the present. We choose to live HEARTILY every day.

Video of my 85 (now 87) year old Mom proving she didn't need that darn chair when we went to Ireland 2 years ago. I brought it because she had a hip replacement 3 months prior. Oh yes, thats me providing the music....

Update on farm sale 😢

We've been cleaning and packing and moving!

We sold Snicker's twin heifers, Sable and Scarlet, to a good friend. Sorry to see them go, but they are in a good place! We moved Boris and Natasha to the new place. There is a 3-acre pasture, and we will finish them there. So our farm herd now numbers 9.

We have moved 3 sets of our grow-out chickens up to the new barn, and consolidated the ones here to just the breeding barn so we can clean the coop out. The turkey flock will also move up to the breeding pens as soon as we move the layer flock to the new place (when their pen is done). The turkey coop is a MESS, in desperate need of its spring cleaning.

The house is staged for it's realtor photos today and the listing goes live this weekend.

It has been a blur and we are tired...
