We are bursting at the seams over here! We had our first successful natural hatch with one of our hens the other day, and there are currently eight litters in the barn with two more on the way 🫢 I’ve retained several good looking junior Giant Chinchillas to grow out some more. I’ll most likely make them available soon. If I try to keep one more rabbit, my husband might faint.

Our Welsh Harlequins are laying, and we’re getting more fertile eggs daily than I can hatch out. Our birds come from exhibition quality foundation stock. 🥚 30 🥚 a dozen, local pick up in Amelia, VA only. Photo is of our parents. Two hens are gold phase, two are silver. I’m getting 96% fertility right now.

The Dalton Triple was good to us today! We brought along five giant chins; there were 15 giant chins in total and 4 exhibitors, which was an amazing turnout.
Someday’s Millie Rock got BOB in show A
Someday’s Maevis got BOSB in show B
Someday’s Texas got BOSB in show C

We also got BOB in two shows with our senior Fine Line Thrianta doe from miss Tina Reif 🥳

What a super fun day with new friends. We’re going home after Rare Breed Specialty tomorrow with lots of great feedback.

Officially on the road headed to stay in Tennessee for the Dalton Triple Show this weekend! We are so excited to spend quality time with good friends, and to get some feedback on some of our stock at one of the largest shows in the southeast. Momma’s especially excited to hit that Trammell Trail table for some more carriers… there’s never enough supplies when you breed rabbits 😅

🦌 Deer and bunny bean burritos 🫘
I’ve been on a “meal prep for the freezer” kick lately, and we’re always needing something grab-and-go to cut down on dirty dishes, cooking time, and grabbing something crappy to eat while out. I made another batch of these burritos today and wanted to share them here, since they involve two things we prioritize stocking up on and utilizing on our homestead: deer and rabbit organs. Organ meats are nutritious, but they are not necessarily something my ten year old wants to eat outright. I grind them up with our deer when we process (along with deer heart) for an added mineral boost.
Ingredients:
Ground meat of choice
Amy’s organic refried beans
Siete whole30 approved mild taco seasoning
Colby jack
Tortillas
Wrap with plastic wrap and freeze. Microwave in one-minute intervals until hot, straight out of the freezer.
And bam! Grab and go lunch is available.

If yer here for Andrew drama, here’s my three-part statement regarding his recent post about our homestead (since he turned off comments 🙈)
1. I am shaking in my boots at these threats of taking me to court. Aside from my father and my husband, he might be third in line for men spending the most amount of money on me. Is this chivalry?
2. See attached screenshots of my mentor’s comment (that Andrew quickly deleted, shared with author’s permission). No further comment.
3. Anyone that has an issue moving forward can kiss Henrietta’s fat, juicy b***y

One of the best parts of breeding meat rabbits is getting to decide names for your breeders. You can use cute names like Poppy, Lizzie, and Butch, or get really crazy with it and name them Beefy Five Layer Burrito, Toothpaste, or Chupacabra. The crazier, the better!
I think the silliest one I’ve ever seen was Milk Crate. The owner said the rabbit was brought home in a milk crate, and her young child asserted she would therefore be named Milk Crate 😂

Sharing my personal experience with Andrew Hollern for awareness. Last summer, as we were preparing to move out of state, I posted on my private page offering my hard cull rabbits (Giant Chinchillas) to a loving freezer. Andrew reached out to me and shared that he knew of a butcher that he could take them to. He was explicitly informed that these rabbits were to be terminally culled, due to suspected illness and poor conformation. He told me he would pick them up and take them straight to a butcher after leaving our property.
Andrew later acknowledged to me (see attached) that he kept a trio of these hard culls despite our agreement. I then learned through public postings of his that he is now breeding and marketing Giant Chinchillas. I confronted him about this and gave him an opportunity to correct the issue. Attached are Andrew’s responses, as well as screenshots of our initial text exchange.
Giant Chinchillas are a rare breed with a limited gene pool. The community that breeds them has worked diligently for years, selectively breeding them in accordance with ARBA’s Standard of Perfection. I care deeply about the rabbit community as a whole, so I believe it’s my due diligence to share my experience. Others should make their own judgement.
