For the first 190,000 years, humans lived as hunter-gatherers, constantly on the move and in fear of predators and other humans. Around 10,000 years ago, in Mesopotamia (modern-day Iraq), people began to settle. This shift to an agriculturally-based society in the Fertile Crescent was revolutionary.

Humans started planting crops, building structures, and forming villages, which grew into towns and cities. In these early settlements, humans developed written language, domesticated animals, invented the wheel, and created early forms of architecture and monotheistic religion.

As people spread from the Fertile Crescent into Europe and Asia, they took with them their knowledge of farming and other innovations. This marked the beginning of what we now consider civilization. Though conflict and superstition persisted, humanity made a vital step toward the world we live in today.

Historically used to produce Arak, the anise-flavored distilled spirit of Lebanon, this white variety is now becoming a popular choice for wine production. Once thought to be a clone of Chardonnay, DNA analysis has confirmed it is indeed an Indigenous Lebanese variety. It often yields a wine with a creamy texture and flavors of honey and lemons.
