The Corkscrew Concierge Wine | Travel | Experiences - Made appealing & accessible to all. WSET Level 3 (w/Merit), Cava Educator, CSW; Houston Lawyer By Day

I enjoy wine and I enjoy travel and can't think of two better things to combine to create some fantastic experiences. And I want everyone to have the same appreciation for wine that I do. I still talk to people who are intimated by wine and there really is no need to be. My goal is to show that wine can be accessible to all if you just open yourself up to it.

🤔 So many days I question if I'm doing things right. But when your son rolls up to the restaurant and orders himself an order of escargot followed by bone marrow, then yep, you're doing ok Mom! 🙌🏾😂

A fabulous night out with my favorite 13yr old at .

And though Chassagne-Montrachet (part of the "Golden Triangle" of white Burgundy along with Puligny-Montrachet and Meursault) is one of my fave expressions of White Bourgogne, I thought I'd give this red wine a try. Not too bad. Or maybe it was my amazing date...

Sometimes you - and the wine - just need a hug. And these are wines I definitely want to love and hug on for what they represent and support. It also doesn't hurt that they come from a region that I adore - Santa Lucia Highlands

We all know that there is just so much wine out there. That means that when we do grab for a bottle, we want it to not only taste good, but for it to also speak to things that are important to us. It's the same reason I buy organic celery and strawberries.

I still remember the first time I had the Lucy Wines rosé and just stood there thinking that this isn't just the same ol' rosé. It was so vibrant and juicy and so dang good! At the time, I didn't know and appreciate the story behind the wine. I just knew it was an amazing rosé. But knowing what these wines stand for, it just makes me want to enjoy them more and more.

A project of the Pisoni family (who I still want to go live with on their farm) of Pisoni Family Vineyards, the Lucy wines are all about giving back. There are three wines and each supports an amazing cause.

The Rosé of Pinot Noir supports breast cancer research and is actually what got this thing started. About 20 years ago, a breast cancer survivor named Lucy Millman bought the Lucy rosé as both the name and color of the wine spoke to her. When the family learned that she was a fan, they began donating to her Susan G. Komen 3-Day® fund. But it didn't stop there - the family has continued to donate a portion of the wine's proceeds to various breast cancer research since. I couldn't love this story more‼️

The Gamay Noir supports their environmental commitment and provides proceeds to local firefighters that safeguard the region against the effects of climate change.

The Pinot Bianco supports ocean conservancy, which is a cause near and dear to their hearts. The Pacific Ocean plays such a huge role in the wines of the Santa Lucia Highlands, where the Pisoni family is based and they want to ensure that the habitat remains a beautiful and thriving one.

Wines certainly worth toasting and enjoying.

❓How about National Rose Weekend❓I'm starting early with one of our perennial favorites - Teutonic Wine Company's rosé. Not a summer goes by that we don't snag a few of these.

But don't get it twisted - this is not one of those pale, delicate Provençal rosés. This one has a little “oomph” to it which gives it such versatility. It's part wild child, part rebellious, and part fancy pants. This vintage is full of wild summer strawberries and orange cream and seems to have a hint of sweetness. But the acidity just makes it a sublime sip.

I’ve had this wine with everything from sushi to roast chicken to red beans and rice. This time I made roast chicken and veggies with a chimichurri sauce. The last of the parsley from the garden before the heat kills it all. 😩

I love the spirit of this amazing producer and their philosophy. Born from, and influenced by, the wines of Germany and France's Alsace region, Teutonic Wine Company is all about making wines using natural farming practices and minimal intervention from cool climate sites in Oregon. Always a fun and tasty portfolio to taste through.

Repeat after me: Prosecco is a "Place" NOT just a cheap price point.

I get it. For years, I didn't drink Prosecco because I'd had so many bad ones. I mean, there are so many other bubbles worth my time. BUT...

I still remember my journey back from the anti-Prosecco dark side. I still remember the bottle that gave me pause and made me start believing in it again. It was one of those “who knew?!” moments. A closer look at the words on the bottle saw me really hone in on Conegliano Valdobbiadene Prosecco and what it really meant. I was so impressed that yep, I wrote an article about it.

Wines from Conegliano Valdobbiadene (actually 2 separate towns) are a type of "Prosecco Superiore" and occupy a higher level on the wine quality pyramid, being designated as “DOCG”. Why❓The grapes are grown on steep, higher altitude sites that enjoy plenty of sun, not to mention a medley of soil types and lower fruit yields. These growing conditions result in wines that are more complex and that have purer, more refined flavors, bright acidity, and aromatic intensity.

And there are so many different expressions to enjoy - broad, lateral, fuller-bodied? Yep! Linear, mineral-driven and full of tension? Yep! Even better is that the Prosecco Superiore DOCG is one of the leading wine regions in the world for their sustainability efforts.

Compare that to “regular” “DOC” Prosecco, which is grown in flat, low lying areas and tends to be more simple and fruity. They’re just different. 🤷🏽‍♀️ Yes, I’ve had plenty of DOC Prosecco in a mimosa or other cocktail. But when I want to enjoy sparkling wine all on its own, Prosecco Superiore is the way to go.

I was lucky enough to again join some of the folks associated with the CV consortium for a class, lunch, and to see what’s new. This bubblehead loves the spirit of the winemakers in this region❗️Organic, biodynamic, lees-aged, long-aged, traditional method (as opposed to the normal Charmat method), unfiltered, and more - these winemakers are all in and getting the best from the land in this amazing region. And I’m 👏🏾 Here 👏🏾 For 👏🏾 It‼️

And shoutout to The Marigold Club for the perfect feast to go with these amazing wines. 🙌🏾

I did NOT have pork loin with grapes and shallots on my bingo card of things to cook and enjoy. Like grapes?! 🍇🤷🏽‍♀️ "Co-inhabitants" were like "huh"?!😆

But that's why I have cooking subscriptions when my brain is tired of coming up with things to make for dinner. Who knew that grapes would be the prefect foil to the fat and salt from the pork? So darn tasty! Shoutout to NYT Cooking for the continued inspiration.

And yes, I'm still on my Grenache grind with C.L. Butaud’s ah-mazing Grenache! The minute I tasted it at the winery, I knew it was coming home with me - even with them telling me it wasn't for sale yet. Umm, yes it is... 😂 Winemaker Randy Hester is seriously a wine whisperer whose wines I continue to be dazzled by. I mean he makes an amazing Blanc de Noir Mourvèdre that just 🤯! Wow!

I shouldn't be surprised at the deft hand at which the Grenache was made since Randy & Brooke Hester's previous Napa winery, Lightening Wines, was focused on Grenache and other Rhône varietals. Such an elegant, delicate wine that reminded me of wines like Schiava and lighter Pinot Noir.

Happy June y'all! The month of May saw me finally getting back into wine after some time off. I hadn't written anything since last November and hadn't posted much on social since early January. Yep, it's definitely good to be back at it. Sharing a few fun highlights from May that helped restart my return:

(1-3) Returned as a judge to one of my fave places - Livermore Valley - to judge the California Signature Wine Awards, which this year combined the Livermore Valley Uncorked! And Alameda County Fair wine completions into one.

(4) Took seriously the deepest dive on biodynamic farming and learned so much. Absolutely enthralled!! Thank you Estate and shout out to for the amazing content!

(5) Enjoyed some sips by the sea at as part of an unexpected detour and soaked in the atmosphere while letting go of some stress. How had I missed this spot?!

(6) "Helped" taste and evaluate an amazing selection wines. He also made me dinner!

(7) Followed the to for a Mothers Day pre-dinner (Gotta have some bubbles)

(8) Finally reconnecting with good friends (after 10 months!) featuring some of my fave cellars selections -

(9-11) Got to clink glasses with owner and winemaker Jeff Nelson from whose Chardonnay once brought a year to my eye. Seriously!
