We got the Big Bear running, but getting it started just showed us what we need to tackle next.

The carburetor is definitely giving us trouble, including fuel dumping out of the overflow, so that’s going to need some attention.

We’ve also got a charging problem. The battery isn’t getting the voltage we should be seeing while it’s running, which means it’s time to start digging into the charging system—and possibly the stator.

One problem solved, two more uncovered. 😂

Next up: figure out why this thing is flooding and why it isn’t charging.

The Big Bear journey officially begins.

This old Yamaha has been sitting, and before we can find out what else it needs, we’ve got to get it to crank and run reliably.

In Part 1, I start working through the electrical system:
🔧 Troubleshooting the starter relay with a multimeter
⚡ Bridging the relay terminals to see if the engine will turn over
🔋 Installing a new battery
🔩 Chasing down a bad ground
🛠️ Running a new ground connection and seeing what happens

No fancy shop and no throwing parts at it — just working through one problem at a time and figuring out what this old Big Bear needs.

This is Part 1 of the Big Bear revival. The goal: get it running, riding, and back to work around the Brashers Homestead.

Attack of the turkey!! For the house we had to move the ducks and turkeys in to the garden area. Every time I come to the garden I get attacked by one turkey. Today one decided to jump on my back and peck my back and ear. I think I know which one needs to go first.🤣😂🤣😂

Chase has been helping the brick guys lay the brick and clean up. He even earned $10 from them.

A year ago, this was just a dream.

Today we’re walking through rooms that only existed on paper not that long ago.

Every wall, every window, every empty room represents a step forward for our family. We traded comfort for a dream, living in a camper while we built a new life on our 14 acres. There were plenty of moments when it would’ve been easier to quit, but those hard days are what make this feel so rewarding.

Now, these empty rooms are waiting to become a home.

Outside the windows are our gardens, chickens, ducks, turkeys, and the woods that reminded us why we chose this life in the first place. There’s still a mountain of work ahead—landscaping, porches, fencing, outbuildings, and countless projects—but for the first time, we can truly see the future taking shape.

This isn’t the finish line.

It’s the foundation for everything that’s still to come.

Thanks to everyone who’s followed along, encouraged us, and celebrated the small wins with us. We can’t wait to show you what comes next.

Have you ever had a turkey fly into your face? I pulled my phone out to record them and one got me. Flew right onto my neck.
