Loving when our partners on projects (Gretna Downtown Drainage, in this case) respond to construction issues in innovative ways. Construction EcoServices
Thanks to Construction EcoServices for this write up. When you combine the booming Riverfront development area with aggressive management ordinances in New Orleans and a small urban footprint, effective stormwater management can be a challenge. Combining the stormwater design expertise of our team at Kyle Associates with the innovative products that Construction EcoServices bring to the table, gives you results like this! See full article @

At the forefront of innovative project solutions, Kent Design Build continues to lead the industry! When Bullard Medical Center in New Orleans East needed stormwater management Duplantis Design Group & Kent Design Build teamed with Construction EcoServices to provide PowerBlock – a transformative permeable pavement solution. Kent Design Build directed the installation process and Construction EcoServices verified installation met the 1,000 in/hour specification. Aimed at managing and further mitigating localized flooding in urban environments this 3-in-1 solution was able to exceed regulatory requirements – proving solutions that go beyond is the real success story here!

Have you ever come back to your car following a rainstorm, to find that it is now sitting in a puddle? Then, immediate dread sinks in as you realize you now get to look forward to a drive with wet socks / shoes. The construction of parking lots is critical for many reasons – including giving stormwater somewhere to go versus creating puddles around your car.
Due to its wet climate and history of flooding, the City of New Orleans has a strict code governing stormwater management. This code came into play during the design / construction of a parking lot for a new medical facility in the area. A regular parking lot with asphalt would create a large impermeable surface, causing flooding as the stormwater would have nowhere to go (prior to the construction of the parking lot, it would filter into the soil). To counteract this concern and meet the code requirements, PowerBLOCK permeable pavers were chosen. These 4.5” tall pavers have infiltration rates over 1,000 inches per hour and are easy to maintain due to their open joints (they don’t require stone infill).
Thanks to our Louisiana distributor with Construction EcoServices for sharing this installation with us!
Have you been to the Treme Center in the last few days?
If so, you may have noticed the newly installed 14 highbeam overcup oak trees! And it's not only trees. Below the surface there are soil cells placed to allow the roots to spread more freely and to absorb more rainwater. Our hope is that these trees will help capture more runoff from the Treme Center while providing so many more benefits like cooling down the area during the summertime and beautifying the neighborhood.
This project would not be possible if it weren't for all of the partnerships. Water Wise Treme Neighborhood Champions envisioned the project and selected it as the runner up project to be funded by the Institute for Sustainable Communities . Cheryl R Austin, Executive Director of the Greater Treme Consortium played a leadership role bringing this project to life with her dedication and perseverance. Dana Brown & Associates, Inc. (Dana Nunez Brown, Delaney McGuinness and Gaylan Williams) provided their green infrastructure technical expertise and oversight and utilized their partnerships for the donation of the trees and soil cells. The trees were donated by Select Trees Enterprises and the soil cells were donated by Construction EcoServices. Boines Construction (Mike) removed over 400sq ft of concrete and excavated the soil to make room for these large trees that weighed 1,600lbs each! Rotolo Consultants Inc. Landscaping installed the trees in the ground. Finally, Angela Chalk at Healthy Community Services and (owner of Bullet's Sports Bar) allowed us to store the trees in the 7th Ward and Mr. Winfred Dalcour kept the trees watered in the heat while they were being stored. Thank you everyone for making this project possible!
