Grand Champion again at Day 2 Spitsbroek on Fire BBQ competition!!!

After what’s felt like a long winter, we were excited to back on the road and heading to Holland 🇳🇱 for the Spitsbroek on Fire KCBS double and start our new BBQ season.

So on day one, we were definitely a bit rusty with the only calls for us being a 5th place chicken and a 5th place brisket call. But we knew what we needed to change and day two went a lot better.

1st place Chicken
4th place Ribs
5th place Pork
1st place Snake River Farms Brisket

This was good enough to give us another Grand Championship.

Congrats to Its Spice That Meats You on RGC and everyone else who got calls. And congrats to the day one winners The Antwerp Smokers GC and BBQ Hot Yard RGC.

Huge thanks has to go to Carmans E&L N.V. & Dave_Traeger_Project who’ve helped us sourcing and shipping great competition meats.

As always the combination of Big Poppa Smokers, Blues Hog and Gateway Drum Smokers delivered again!

Finally, thank you to the guys and girls from and who all did an amazing job organising not only a smooth competition, but also great food drinks and entertainment.

Wow… another world championship and another walk on the big stage!

3rd place brisket at Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo BBQ contest! That’s two years back to back finals calls for our Snake River Farms Brisket and we finally get one of these sweet trophies to take home.

As always the combination of Big Poppa Smokers, Blues Hog and Gateway Drum Smokers is key to what we do and it definitely delivered again!

Finally we just want to say thanks to everyone who came by and chatted/laughed/had a beer with us over the weekend, there’s so many of you and it’s always the highlight of our trips and massive congratulations to everyone else who got calls this weekend.

I guess we’d better think about packing and getting to the airport as we start making our way home.

It’s been 6 years since we did our last non-competition class, but it’s also the one we get asked about the most!

Well… We’re finally doing it! We’re bringing back our “Zero to Hero” American BBQ Class on the 30th of May at Socal BBQ Shop

It doesn’t matter what your experience level is or what BBQ you have, we’ll be cooking on so many different BBQ’s and sharing our knowledge from the last 20 years to help you make better BBQ.

This isn’t your run-of-the-mill sausage sizzle or couple of burgers type of BBQ; we’ll be covering and cooking:

Meat selection, trimming, fire management, hot & fast vs low & slow.
The Big Three: Brisket (Texas & Kansas style), Pork Shoulder, and St. Louis Ribs.
The Crowd Pleasers: Beef Short Ribs, Pork Belly, and Chicken.
The Sides: Then we’ll make it a meal with our sides of BBQ Beans, Cornbread, Mac & Cheese, and Slaw.

The class will start at 10am sharp and finishes at 4pm after we’ve finished with all the slicing, serving and feasting on everything cooked on the day.

American Royal Open… Last one of the year!!!

So we’re back from the American Royal Open. This is one of the biggest challenges in BBQ with over 400 teams competing from all over the world. This year we had the added challenge of 25-30 mile an hour wind gusts and freezing temperatures all while cooking out of a tent!

Given the conditions we had to deal with we were still able to deliver.

16th Overall out of 401 teams with a score of 701

Top International Team Overall Score

In the individual categories we finished just outside the ribbons coming in 26th in with our SRF Brisket with a 177.7028 score out of a max score of 180.

But we were fortunate enough to walk away with a ribbon in the invitational for our 11th place chicken in that contest.

While it’s great to have a good finish, sometimes it’s even better when you get to be next to your friends and celebrate with them when they get their moment on the big stage and a square trophy.

Huge congratulations go to our friends Luke and Kim from Old Virginia Smoke on their 707 score and getting Reserve Grand Champion! We’ve had a blast hanging out with them over the last 6 weeks at different contests in 3 different states and couldn’t be happier for them.

Massive congratulations also had to go out to Wag’s Backwoods BBQ for their epic Grand Champion win!

As always these trips aren’t possible without the help and support we get from other teams and friends we’ve made over the years. Huge thanks to Man Meat BBQ Janky Leg BBQ and OVS for your help with equipment on this trip and the great company.

3rd place brisket at Jack Daniels World Championship Invitational BBQ Contest!

As we start making our way back across the pond we can take a moment to look back at what’s been a great couple of weeks for us travelling the US and making new friends and memories along the way with the final leg being the Super Bowl of BBQ, the Jack Daniels Invitational at their distillery in Lynchburg TN.

This year we were blessed with some great weather which was a welcome change from our last time competing here.

As for our cook, we had a mixed bag of results with some work to do in other areas.

Highlights being 25th in chicken and 3rd place in brisket (SRF) helped us finish 40th overall.

As always with these US trips we’ve got too many people to thank but special thanks go out to our Jack Ambassador Scott from Smoke Showin BBQ, Luke and Kim from Old Virginia Smoke for a great couple of weekends, Jordan and Allie from Janky Leg BBQ, the IO team, Jay from Korte Meats Competition Bbq Annella from snakeriverfarms for the help and support they’ve all given us.

Finally a thanks to the people who’ve supported us for years with amazing products and ingredients that we use and have helped be a part of our success in the BBQ world. Big Poppa Smokers rubs, Blues Hog and Gateway Drum Smokers.

While most people might be thinking that this might be the end of our BBQ season, but not quite yet. We’ve got a few weeks to rest up before we be back on the road again.

So for a weekend off, we still ended up doing a lot of BBQ stuff.

Started off by stocking up with some amazing beef from the guys at Their stuff is exceptional and one of the few places where the Wagyu you buy actually looks like the stuff they show online. Also nice that they’re only 20 miles away from us, so nice to buy local when we can.

Next up was a trip to see the guys down at / .uk to play a game of how much charcoal can I fit in the car? That’s 26 bags of charcoal to get us through to the rest of the season.

Finally a quiet day smoking lamb ribs on the Jambo and testing out some of these steaks 😋

I think I’m ready for work tomorrow, just to give me a break 😂

Grand Champions of Day Two

This weekend we were back in Europe for the Belgisch BBQ Weekend double header. This contest pulled in teams from all over Europe as well as some friends from Costa Rica.

So after crossing on the Eurotunnel late on Thursday night, we had a quick stop at where Nick and Dave had done a great job picking out our competition meats so we could pick them up quickly and then head straight to the contest.

We’ve been at this contest before, so we knew it was a great location, the organisers made sure all the teams had everything we needed including a good dinner and breakfast which is one less thing for us to worry about, so thanks for that.

As for the results on Day one

1st Chicken
3rd Ribs 3rd
5th Pork 5th
8th Brisket 8th

Was good for 4th place overall.

So with a couple of tweaks going into day two we got

10th place Chicken
7th place Ribs
3rd place Pork
3rd place Brisket

So even with lower placings, we had higher scoring which was good enough to give us Grand Champion for day two.

Congrats to fellow old timer and cooks on their Day one GC and having the highest score over both comp’s combined.

Also to on day 1 RGC and .antwerpsmokers for day 2 RGC.

So we added to our BBQ collection this week, found an OFYR that needed a new home and some TLC.

So after getting it home late last night, and a long day at work. It’s been a great way to relax getting to learn how this thing works and getting it all re-seasoned for when I’m ready to cook in it.

Although after using 15kgs of wood in what would have given me an hour of cooking time, I need to find a good supplier of logs 😂

This weekend we were in the town of Eede on the Belgium/Holland border competing again.

1st place Chicken

🐷🔥 BBQ TO THE RESCUE! 🔥🐷

Bunch of Swines are stepping up to help our friends at Duncan Self Drive for their Easter Charity Fun Day!

Sadly, their planned caterer has unfortunately fallen ill, so your local Championship winning BBQ team is jumping in last minute to sling some delicious food and help raise vital funds for the incredible Prospect Hospice. ❤️

We’ll be firing up the smokers tomorrow and serving:
• Awesome Pulled Pork Rolls 🐖
• Classic Burgers 🍔
• Tasty Hot Dogs 🌭

Come on down tomorrow, grab some championship BBQ grub, enjoy all the fun activities the Duncan’s Self Drive team has planned, and most importantly, support a fantastic local charity doing amazing work in Swindon.

All proceeds from the BBQ will go to the charity, so let’s make this a brilliant day for Prospect Hospice! See you there!

We had a great time at our Competition BBQ class this weekend. Great to see so many people interested in the sport and getting to share our knowledge from the last 15 years in the circuit.

Big thanks to Bespoke Brewing Co. for hosting us with a great venue and some tasty beers, and a huge thanks to Kev & Claire Comp BBQ UK for organising it all.
